Out of interest, how many of you guys buy photography magazines? If so, which ones?

Do you find them useful etc...?

Also, for the wedding togs among us, do you ever buy bridal magazines, to see the shots in there, or even just to keep up with the bridal 'gossip' so to speak?

I have bought 3 in maybe 3 years but I got a 12 month sub with either Practical Photography or Digital Photo, I went with Digital Photo (no reason why just had to choose)

I'm hoping it will be quite good.

Never purchased any photography related magazine.
I don't see any need considering the number of blog's these days that offer pretty much what a magazine does.

With regards to the wedding magazines, I basically do that with a few blogs.

Very rarely these days. Apart from reviews they seem to recycle the same old technique articles with just different words, and most never quite deliver.

I had a subscription once to I think it was amateur photographer, or digital photographer for a year. I noticed that they were basically redoing the same articles after a while. The only thing you'll see different is technology changing through the subscription and once you've had 12 months of tips you almost certainly wont see anything new, unless top features of Photoshop CS trickle down the Elements or some Lightroom presets, etc.

It's all very samey after a while.

12 months to digital photo, i have found it useful for two reasons 1) inspiration 2) PS tips and tricks

But i have found it a bit samey

Ditto

When I first started I used to, mainly because I didn't know any better, but as mentioned they repeat a lot of stuff or you grow out of it quickly. The internet is much better source of information.

I had a year subscription to the British Journal of Photography but there was too much weird highbrow/rubbish portraiture and strange projects. Very little solid photography.

Yeah I always used to have a few subscriptions to flick through on the train. Nowadays I don't have anything as it was all getting quite samey and was never really /serious/ photography, so the photoshop was all a little to beginner level for me, and the tips I'd heard all before. It's interesting reading for a little while but wouldn't bother with more than 6 months or so.

To be honest I wouldn't even bother with a sub, just maybe pick up a copy every few months IF it has something that perks your interest. Literally the only thing I found interesting was the videos of editing as I always used to have a lot of problems in the editing. Lightroom has made that much easier for photography though, so I don't even worry about it. That being said, I still need to build my website so I might have to re familiarise myself with Photoshop again!

Some 25-30 years ago I was a subscriber to Practical Photography for years.......
Over the last year or so I've picked up a few mags, found they still telling the same stuff as they did all this years ago, all be it digitised !! ... but half as many pages as they use to have and no real depth.
So I pick at random now, if they perhaps have a review that catches my eye.....
I'm now actually more inclined to down load the iPad version.

I didn't buy tog mags in the past, but I was given a subscription to Digital Camera last xmas and the photoshop section has been a great help. I still refer to old articles when I need a bit of help with something. It also has some cool "10 things to do right now" suggestions every month that are seasonally relevant so if I am feeling uninspired I go do them.

I get them on buy 5 issues for a fiver or £1 for 3 etc and rotate the sub around friends. I like the PS tips and creative editing in some of them.

I've been regularly reading Amateur Photographer for a few years. I think there's bound to be repetition and some of the tips are quite basic but they do a good job. Photos look different in print too.
