How many of you or those you know get mangled on a weekend?

Drank at uni, but not anymore Probably haven't been interested in drinking since 24 years old

I just don't enjoy it. And with work I do not want to feel like crap all weekend for one rubbish night.

It saves so much money when you don't even like it. It's not a sacrafice for me to not go out.
I've noticed it's much more common now that people don't go out, or do t drink even when out. For work outing very few people wanted to go to the bar. More wanted to do an escape room.

I value my free time for activities like going to beach, or social board games. These aren't fun when you feel hung over.

Maybe I just associate with people more like myself so my observations are too anecdotal. But does feel like people are drinking much less than 10 years ago

There can be abit of a spike. Young, you drink because you can, middles ages you cut down due to kids, mortgage, partners. Pass 50's you it pick back up again due retiring early, separation, divorce so you need something to fill up the time again.

Wetherspoons never see a decline in pensioners sitting the pub all day drinking.

Never been a massive drinker, but partied hard from 15-30, and admittedly from mid-20s we tended to have massive houseparties rather than going out.

Pubs priced themselves out of the drink market. People just do it at home now.

There must be at least 50 pubs within a 15 minute walk of my work. They are all surviving and have plenty of people in them throughout the day.

Prices aren't an issue. People go for the experience and draft lager which you can't substitute. They must make cut backs elsewhere as some even go to the pub daily.

Less younger generation though. They tend to go clubbing and spend £150 on a bottle of ciroc for show. They tend to go out once a month now rather than once a week.

Mangled? I've usually got a bottle of something for the weekend, cheaper than going out obviously.

I don't even drink that much when I go out; when you're around other people it's better in be in control, plus rounds are expensive, especially all the craft beers people drink today.

I get twisted far too often; usually a couple of times a week.

Friday I went to the casino, twisted.
Saturday I had a charity golf day, twisted afterwards
Sunday, I did nothing. If there was a Liverpool game on, I'd probably have got a little drunk; early morning this morning though (4am) as I had a flight to catch.

You don't need to go out drinking to pull nowadays, there's an app for that.

What is it, Hookers4U ?

Pubs priced themselves out of the drink market. People just do it at home now.

Pubs didn’t price themselves out of the market, the breweries said, “the barrels of beer that were £ X, will now cost £ X plus”, the publican will then have to adjust his price to maintain his profit margin.
Of course, he could absorb the hit, leave the price as is, and earn less from sales, but people go into business to make money, not make less than is possible.
It’s a bit like Black Cabs, people say that they priced themselves out of the taxi market, but the drivers don’t set the fares, in London TFL does.
They take into account the cost of buying/renting a cab, fuel prices, insurance, maintenance, whatever, and decide what to set metered fares at.
If John Q. Public doesn’t like those fares, they’ll turn to minicabs or Uber, that’s the free market, but it’s no good blaming the Black Cab driver, he can’t calibrate the meter, it’s sealed by TFL.

Big drinker in my 20s, but no longer now as I want to spend my weekends on something else other than nursing a hangover. Friends are the same save for an odd one, maintained a high tolerance through the years.

I wouldn't be surprised if people are just switching their vices around. Wouldn't be surprised if drinking numbers go down but people who use the devils lettuce go up.

I've never been a big drinker or fan of alcohol and could probably live my life without ever having a drink again and not be upset, if I am honest. Used to really annoyed with my Ex's Father. He'd think I was less of a man because I opted for a soft drink with a meal rather than beer/larger. Like, I'm the weird one for not wanting to drink a literal poison. Mental.

Every couple of weeks I'll do a friday lunch time with a couple of mates. Normally about 8 pints mind lol but otherwise I don't go out that much. Rather have mates over for dinner or vice versa and have drinks there.

When I first started going out I was out Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat.
25 years later and there's no way I could afford to do that these days. Last time I went out for a serious night out, it cost me over £100
I haven't had a drink in about 3 years now.. boring, i know :p

I used to drink every weekend, but round friends house's, but since owning my own house i just don't bother drinking anymore. One thing that i have noticed, if for example i do go out for someones birthday, is the amount of fights you tend to see, that seems to have increased?

The very last bit of your post drives me crazy.
I can never understand why not going out are classed as 'boring' or why people who don't enjoy it class themselves as 'boring'

I'm of mind that going out is 'boring' as it's same stuff over and over.

Have no issue with people who enjoy it enjoying it, more that if you don't enjoy it, and thus don't go is still labeled as 'boring'

I guess its still in culture that 'going out' is the standard for qualifying your level of on the 'boring' to 'exciting' scale

we have minimum pricing here and you aren't allowed offers in supermarkets as in buy 3 for 2, etc.

so people that want to drink beer the price difference isn't huge.

show me how many wetherspoons have closed down in the last 10 years?

small independents will close because they are poorly run. they seem to be the reason why 50% have shut down. but they open up again with a new owner.

80% of business's fail within the first 3 years. so to see 50% of pubs shut down within a period of time isn't anything bur ordinary because it's a very common business.

my local is going strong. as is my mates local. and like i said i must have at least 50 pubs 15 mins walking distance from work.

yes some have shut down. but plenty to go around so therefore prices aren't an issue.

it's just different clientale nowadays especially in my local. those with money and families rather than single tramps. go to easterhouse though and the pub there is full of tramps.

how many kegs were sold in the last year? and how many were sold 10 years ago?

Hold on a second, Wetherspoons? I mean, don’t get me wrong, it certainly makes your entire presence on this forum more understandable but you can’t genuinely be using a Wetherspoons as a benchmark can you? A place where luxuries are cut, you know the kind of 5 star luxury as music? Their entire menu is basically Iceland’s finest? I don’t think you can even get a Peroni in a Wetherspoons can you?

Bloody hell, Wetherspoons is a dive, they always stink of old people, kidney failure and stale booze. The most exciting sound in a Wetherspoons is a 30 year old fruity which is clinging on to life harder than Susan Boyle’s musical career.

Yuck.
