Curious really as my housing situation is an interesting talking point.

I live with 7 others in a large 3.5 story rented Victorian terrace house (SW4) and love it. People often come out with the usual comments such as 'is it not noisy all the time?' but it really isn't because we all work the same hours and everyone is in their rooms by 10 or so. I moved in without knowing anyone and its turned out great meeting 70+ people in the past 2.5 years. Weeknights are quiet and everyone generally chills out but we also go out together whenever possible and generally have become very close (ages between 22-38!).

It does help the house is quite large so we all have our own bedrooms, separate living room and kitchen plus a roof terrace.

I couldn't imagine living in a house with less than 4 others at a push! And yes i've done the living with one other person but it isn't for me right now.

So what about you?

I'm from a big family, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. We spent the majority of our childhood in a Victorian "villa" named Wellington Villa with 2 to a room and honestly, I really enjoyed it. We had 2 main living rooms, large dining room which connected to the kitchen and a large garden.

It was fantastic! Unfortunately, life dramatically changed, not for the better and the 8 of us had to move to a smaller house. We were a close family, to some degree a few of us still are, but living in the villa is how I remember the happy years.

Fast forward to now and I live with my wife, son, mother-in-law and her disabled son.

I'm not sure I would change the current situation, but having some privacy would be really nice as me and the wife share the 3 bed bungalow.

I have room for my PC, so I'm happy when I wish to veg out :D

Just me and my gf. Can't stand the thought of 'house sharing' again, did all that in uni.

It depends on personal preferences, but in any case 4 is the maximum I'd say. You don't want to have to wait to shower or cook after a hard day's work.

I shared a house with 15 (!) people at uni. It was a large three-storey house with a basement; the uni had converted it so it almost resembled an extension of halls within a house.

It was hot, cramped and not especially salubrious; I'd never do it again but I still miss it five years after leaving. You really get to know people living in that sort of proximity. Like your house, it wasn't particularly noisy, since we all learned to respect each other's (limited) space and privacy.

Sharing with 2 in the top 2 floors of a Victorian terrace. My room is huge, and I only share the bathroom with 1 guy as the other room is en suite. We're all chilled guys, and not messy, so it's perfect for me :)

Previously lived in a 4 person flat share, part of the time it was myself, another guy + 2 girls, other times it was myself + 3 girls - people came and went... Was a lot of fun at the time, few parties, nights out with flatmates... still friends with a lot of them now. Turned 30 and decided it was time to stop living like a student and buy my own place.
