How many PCI-E slots are you using and what's in them?

IIRC I've got 4 in use at the moment.

GFX
SATA (I think, it's been a long time since i looked)
2x USB3 cards.

The USB 3 cards are because I tend to run a bunch of devices and it seems that despite USB being sold originally as "up to 127 devices" Windows starts to get upset when you run more than about 6-10 per USB root hub especially if any of them are USB drives.

I've found anything more than 2 devices per hub even can get a bit flaky - sometimes it is really small glitches like 1 of the devices will randomly not resume from a low power state or another device might disconnect after a few hours, etc. etc.

A lot of onboard sound, even when it has really good stats on paper, I find sounds dull.

I'm leaning away from a soundcard or onboard though with my next build and going for something external - I'm finding stuff like NVMEs induce noise which even better soundcards seem to struggle filtering and external offerings have moved on a long way from where they used to have issues with CPU usage or latency, etc.

But for some reason, most people are influenced by stats and price, which is why a non-audio company managed to capture the market. Yet, the audiophiles have known for a very long time that stats are just the tip of the iceberg.
