How many people use DACS instead of soundcards?

The only thing that's stopping me from getting a uDAC is the reported lack of volume control from windows as I use a remote control to change the volume when I'm at the other end of the room.

I'm waiting on the Creative Titanium HD as that has good DACs on it, a half decent headphone amp, a low latency input for guitar practice and all the convenience of using windows functions for sound. If it ever comes to the UK that is.
 
Finally got my sound sorted and everything else.

Graham Slee Solo SRGII+ headphone amp. Currently using it with front audio output from X-Fi card, and with Sennheisser HD650's. Cant' stand the noise from fans when gaming so using the headphones suits me.

USB cable going into HRT Music Streamer II+ DAC, and that's feeding a really nice Bantam Gold amp which really is audiophile quality. It's the next step up from their T-amps. I use the Dac and the Mordaunt Short Aviano1 speakers for listening to losless audio in itunes. You might notice the handy logic 3 remote. That allows me to position myself at the other end of the bedroom and control volume/tracks etc...

Ta. It sounds as good as the 15 year old hifi it replaced which was a meridian 600 series transport/dac with audiolab 8000p preamps and 4 monoblocks dirving a pair of mission 753's. I think at the time I spent close to 7k quid building that hifi setup. Crazy times. So yeah..sound is amazing.
a lot of it is the dac of course. It realy does the business. But the amp is amazing. It's a handmade bantam gold done by Templeaudio. And it drives the Mordaunt shorts nicely.

They are actually 2 Sapphire 5970 4gig cards..each one takes up 3 pci slots :eek: Luckily the classified board and the 800D allows me to fit them and have 1 slot free between which helps with cooling. What's in the machine is exactly as in my sig.

My bad didn't see your sig. You have some nice kit there, I also have expensive speakers and Denon AV amp downstairs but the 650 combo and Dac with headphone amp matches it :)

I have 1 5970 watercooled, but those too take the biscuit what games are you playing lol I run 30" do you run 3?
 
Yes I have 2 more 30 inches. Just waiting to move PC into other room where I have longer desk which will take all 3 screens. For now using just the 1 30008WFP.

I'm currently playing bioshock 1 and have this lot to get through, half of which I'm only half way through.

Personally, I've decided to stick with my Xfi + HD595 combo. Blissful ignorance is what I'd call it.
