Could even be turned into a poll? :)

41 and beyond!

Just curious really to see where I stack up alongside other OCUKers and thought this deserved to be outside of the 'Gym Rats' thread...who doesn't love a classic push-up! :p

I am on week 5 of https://hundredpushups.com/index.html so I started around the 17 mark and hit 32 in a row today.

I try it later today. Should be able to do 50 at least.

Impressive!

I don't work out and can only do about 8 real ones before its a struggle :/
slowly going up and down in a controlled fashion though rather than letting gravity do some of the work.

I've been planning to start working out again for the last 2 months...but the hot weather tells me I would sweat buckets and feel like crap after.
I actually own weights just never used them in years.

You would be surpised just how quickly your stength improves - could try the website i posted? :)

Around 17 for me. The first 10 i can manage fairly easily but then beyond that it gets a struggle quickly.

A few weeks back i set myself a small challenge of doing 50 pushups, squats and lunges throughout the day as 5 sets of 10. That lasted a few days, although i do try and do them every now and then, i broke my wrist around 15 years ago and find press ups always put quite a lot of pressure on it. I did buy some of those push up handles but never really used them.

Have you come across these before? Less pressure on the wrist.

I seem to be hitting a wall around there as well - guess it is my age :s

EDIT: It is weird though - it goes easy, easy, easy and then hit a wall not like it used to be where it would progressively get harder.

How old are ya? I am 32 (JUST).

I mean...i had 2 bottles of wine yesterday so maybeeee that hindered it a bit. :o

Good luck @Marvt74 !

You will definitely see changes in a few weeks. Keep an eye on your diet also so lots of protein and a calorie deficit for the moobs. :)

I take a progress pic every 3 weeks or so...quite motivational.

Good call on the progress pics. I never took any when i started losing weight and it's only now that i look back at pictures from January and realise what i've lost.

I'm often in a calorie deficit. I run 30-40 miles a week so generally have a good level of fitness too. My issue is mainly body shape. My weight and belly are fine for me now, you can even see elements of muscle definition in my stomach. Fat for me hangs around love handles at the sides creating a muffin top and my moobs. I always say if i had a big belly it'd be better as then the moobs would be less noticable. I'm hoping that my doing these press ups i can stretch the skin around my chest which will then pull in my chest.

I am not as knowledgeable as others on here but I do my research/do know something...and my first thought is you are maybe doing too much cardio.

I would personally up the strength training to 4 days a week, add 1-2 sessions of HIT (loads on YouTube) and add incline treadmill walking as a low impact cardio.

Mm to be honest, I didn't either. I had the whole "everyone else knows what they are doing mentality" but after watching some YouTube videos, trying things out and actually asking the people who work at the gym...yeah progress has been made.

See how you go with the push up challenge. There are quite a few out there so try different variations plus different forms...you'll definitely see a difference in your chest area. :)

So i remembered this thread I started...32 last June and managed 67 a few weeks ago. Obviously a few pauses when i hit 45 but only a few seconds and didn't break my position. :)

What about you lot?

I'm still not convinced by some of these numbers. I see very few people doing full range push ups and without the full range they are waaaay easier. Are people going chest to the floor through to arms locked out fully whilst being in control the whole time and not falling on the down movement.

Always full range of motion so all the way down - arms locked out and a tiny bit wider than shoulders. Will see what others say though. :p

At the moment I have been following Chris Heira's 100 push up routine which has 10 different types of push up. This has definitely pushed my ability to do more. So last June was 32 so double since then...slacking a bit to be honest. :o

Tbh, when I tried their programme before, I found it hugely over-optimistic.

I.e. I had to repeat week two multiple times before I could move on to week three, etc.

Maybe the steroids I bought from eBay were defective :p (joking!)

Sounds like your diet wasn't good enough so you reached a plateau. ;)

But no on a serious note, I did struggle a bit but it shows you your limits. I am repeating Week 3,Day 2, Column 3 on Tuesday as I couldn't finish set 5 correctly (using my 10kg weightvest so gone back a bit)

@FoxEye Agree it is a shade optimistic...I guess saying people can do it in 2 months rather than 1 year is far more enticing though for a plan. :p At least you can say "I didn't manage 100 after 2 months but I managed X".

@neoboy Guess it depends on how far you spread it out...could be an interesting challenge. 8am - 8pm is 12 hours so how many could you do? :)
