Just out of curiosity really, trying to see how far this has penetrated.

a. Do you regularly use VOIP?

b. Do you use it (1) mostly to call for free (eg. friends of yours using Skype on their computers) or (2) to make normal calls as well?

c. If yes, do you use it (1) at home (2) at work (3) out and about (4) everywhere?

d. When you use VOIP, is it (1) over free wi-fi (at work or your home network) (2) over wi-fi hotspots that you pay for (like BT Openzone etc.) (3) over your phone's data connection?

e. If you answered (3) to the question d., which network are you with, and does your contract include unlimited data downloads?

f. Did your phone come with VOIP software preinstalled, or did you install it yourself? If it came preinstalled, how do you rate it for ease of use? If it didn't, how hard would you say it was to get it working?

I realise this is a techie forum so the answers won't reflect the general population, but I'm not doing any kind of scientific survey or anything, it's just personal curiosity :)

I use Fring on my Nokia E71 to get onto skype network. Works very well over my wifi network. Not used it over T-mobile web n walk's HSDPA network though.

One reason I'm asking this is to figure out under what circumstances does using VOIP over your phone's data connection work out cheaper than normal voice call charges, so if anyone's using a data connection please speak up! :)

I've heard T-Mobile has fully blocked the ports for this unless you have W'n'W plus. However on my HD I got MSN to work so maybe there is a work around.
