How Much Can A E6300 Be Overclocked?

How much can this cpu be overclocked. Also will it be better to increase the FSB or increase the multiplier to get more speed out of it. I was thinking about getting the FSB to 400Mhz to match the 800Mhz memory, would this make much difference in performance?

i have that cpu with 1 gig of geil ultra pc6400 and it runs fine at 3ghz and thats with the memory running at 850mhz i think. it is on 5-5-5-15 mhz at 2.1v and temps are no issue for me with a freezer 7 cooler.

The multi on the E6300 cannot be changed, its locked at 7

Should easy get 3Ghz out of it. See my sig for my clock

Whats the rest of your specs, including RAM and Mobo :)

As per the sig i've been very lucky with my combo, processor is perfectly stable @ 3500Mhz @ 500fsb 10-4-4-4 1:1, will benchmark / play games (but not Othros) @ 3700Mhz @ 528fsb 10-4-4-4 1:1, will boot into Windows @ 3800Mhz but not stable at current voltage.

Ive being toying with getting some of the Ballistix 5300 and im seeig nothing but good about it.

Oh and its Crucial, not Corsair ;) :D

Doh, sig changed ;)

Very impressed with mine, it's the D9 stuff from overclockers and for £109 + vat i couldn't be happier :).

From what i seen pretty much anyone hits 3 gig on these with a better air cooler the stock one is pants, mine sits at 3.2 fine but i normally keep it at 2.8 so my ram is running at its speed of 800mhz, but now i dropped it to stock as i don't use the pc as much now no reason to leave it o/c.

Thanks for all the advice. At the moment it seems a choice between the OCUK 6400 2GB or paying £45.00 more and getting the Ballistix 5300.

In reply to meatloaf the current system I am getting is;

CPU - E6300
Motherboard - Abit AB9 QuadGT
PSU - 520w Corsair
Case - PC-V600
GPU - Nvidia 7900GS 512mb
CPU Cooler - Scyth Ninja Plus
Monitor - Dell 2407WFP
Memory - Ballistix 5300 2GB / OCUK 6400 2GB
Hard Drive -

Would that be decent, plus im upgrading to quad core and probably a 8800 when they are less money.

Nice OC on the e6300

that case wont hold the scyth ninja due to how the psu is mounted

 What other options do I have. Are there any decent coolers which would fit this case?
Get a PC-A05 instead - only a cm or 2 higher than the v600 but can hold any CPU cooler. :)

Also, I'd look at getting an ATI X1950Pro instead of the 7900GS - I'm fairly sure it will be quicker.

heres my 24/7 O/C on evga 680i, acf7p, 2gb geil ull pc6400

Hi,

If you're looking to overclock an E6300 on that board then PC6400 RAM will only get you to 2.8GHz (400MHz). To go further you'll need to overclock it and the OcUK RAM won't overclock much at all.

You have a couple of options - buy more expensive RAM that will clock beyond 400MHz eg. the Crucial Ballistix PC5300 or get an E6400 which has a higher multiplier (8x) so it will do 3.2GHz at 400MHz FSB with the cheaper RAM or even an E4300 that would do a theoretical 3.6GHz with the cheaper RAM (but it's more likely to top out at 3.3-3.5GHz)

If you're really on a budget, then the E4300/OcUK PC6400/Gigabyte P965-S3 would be the cheapest combination, but I would recommend the E6300/Crucial Ballistix/Gigabyte P965-DS3P as that's the one that not leave you thinking "If only I'd spent a few more pounds, I could have another 200MHz".

And if you're on a budget, it's well worth shopping around.

I would definitely get the PC-A05 if you can. I had (I think) the second V600 in the country and the cooling is quite complex. In my opinion, the V600 has one too many compromises in the location of the PSU.

If you're totally in love with the V600 (and why not?) then the best cooler is the Thermalright SI-120, followed closely by it's clone, the Silverstone NT-06 Lite. These are quite special in that they don't have fans, but use the draft from the PSU fan to draw air across the CPU cooler. The upside is they are silent, so no noise issues, but *** downside is that for overclocking they're sometimes on the ragged edge of acceptable. If you get a hot-running E6300, you'll be looking at very high CPU temperatures. Not hot enough to damage the CPU, but still high enough to make you back off your overclock in the summer.

If the SI-120/NT-06 Lite don't float your boat then the Thermaltake Blue or Ruby Orb are good, but not so quiet, and the 120mm Zalman coolers also work very well.

If you do decide to go PC-A05 then the Thermalright HR-01 should be your first choice of CPU cooler. It's fed cold air from the rear case fan (so it's silent) and it's extremely efficient. I'm running one on a massively overclocked E4300 (3.55GHz) and the load temperatures never go over 58C, so it is excellent.

Now that is a decent OC, my e6300 is feeling a little weedy, might need to up the FSB ;) .

Thank you very much for the advice. I had a look at the other case and I prefer the look of the PC-G50 now, and it looks almost identical inside to the PC-V600. I didn't like the look of the other cases as much so I think I will definitly get the PC-G50 now and use one of the two coolers that you reccomended. As long as I can overclock it to 400mhz then I think i'll be happy, and even better if it is able to run silently at that speed. :)

I just checked the Thermalright website and they say the heatsink is 91.5mm, but I heard that you can only use up to 3 3/8" in height on the pv-g50 on a review site. Have the review site got it wrong?

(Edit) I just checked the Silverston NT06 is only 78mm so should I use this one instead or would the Thermalright one be ok still?

(Edit) Would the Thermalright xp-120 be any good also, I think it is new and it only is 63mm height.
