how much CPU limited?

The cards will come with a molex to 6pin converter - can you not use that?

If the best you can do is those I'd get a 7850, but you're not going to get a big improvement. Maybe if you get the one with lots of games and sell those? With the 760K as well you will get a noticeable boost, with many games going from unplayable to ~30fps.

I have the CX430M so I'll start thinking about 660ti/760/7870, whatever I find in the used hardware marketplace. I do want to try the nvidia camp for a while. In the desktop pc I have a 7970.

Yea that PSU should be fine with any (newer) Quad-Core CPUs (with overclocking as well) together with a graphic card that use up to two PCI-E 6pin. According to spec, it can deliver 28A (336W) over the 12v rail...so as long as the power consumption for the CPU is below 100W and graphic card is below 200W, it would still leave at least 10% of headroom for anything else (which usually hardly consume that much power), and more if the CPU and graphic card don't consume as high as 300W in total.

For all the money that the likes of the 660ti, gtx760 and 7870 cost, I think it's worth saving a bit more for the 7950 tbh. Even with a slower CPU, you'll have a nice GPU to carry over to your next build ;)

People, there are the options I have for used GPUs:
1) Sapphire ATI Radeon HD7870 GHz Edition 2GB DDR5...165E
2) Sapphire HD 7870 XT with Boost...180Ε
3) Αsus 7870 direct cu ii 2gb v2...180Ε
4) EVGA GeForce GTX660 3GB SC Signature 2...170Ε
5) EVGA GTX760...210E
6) Gigabyte GTX660ti Windforce...200€

From all these options I prefer the gtx760 because of its cooling system blowing hot air out my small case (Silverstone GD04) and then the Asus 7870 DC2 again because of its cooling system.

The GTX 760 is your best option out of those. The 7870 XT is next. Don't get the GTX 660, it's too close to your current card, and overpriced.

Thanks, this is what I am thinking too. EVGA 760 SC and if not the 7870xt.
However they do require an 8pin and I only have a 6pin...Is there an adapter also for the 8pin?

A review of the EVGA GTX 760 SC ACX says it comes with two PCI-E power adapters.

If you get a 760 I'd strongly recommend upgrading the CPU.

Just got the 760SC. Here are some tests:

Hitman Absolution 1080p high/ultra average fps:
i5-3570: 42/37, x4-740:26/24
x4-740+760SC:-/32

Tomb Raider 1080p ultra/utimate average fps:
i5-3570:38/22, x4-740:37/19
x4-740+760SC:59/45

Sniper 2 elite benchmark:
i5-3570:22, x4-740:21
x4-740+760SC:49

Sleeping Dogs (high/extreme)
x4-740+760SC:49/36

Apart from Hitman which is impressively CPU bound, the other 2 games have increased performance more than 20fps.
