How much data does a work unit upload?

When a folding work unit finishes, roughly how much data does it upload?

I'm guessing it's not much.

I'm getting crappy ping / connections in games (PS3 & PC), tried all sorts and my download speeds are fine so clutching at straws really that it may be this going over the Virgin media upload limit and causing throttling. (Although they say everything is fine)

GPU WU results are normally sub 1MB. SMP WU results vary from 20-50MB. Can't say what the big SMP WU results file is like since I have never completed one.

Cheers, it's mostly GPU WUs so wouldn't be much then, around 30-40MB over a day. Hmm, well that's ruled that out anyway.

The bigadv SMP WU I finished yesterday took about half an hour so to upload - so based on my connection speed here I would estimate ~100MB.

Unless you have 100 clients sharing one connection I doubt F@H work unit transfers cause so much as a blip on your bandwidth usage!

Is it any particular time of day that you are suffering poor connections? It could just generally be a busy time of day for your part of the Virgin network. Have you also tried disabling any firewalls on your PC, see if anything improves?

Yeah I think your right, it tends to be after work but is happening a lot more than it used to. The download speed is always fine 9-10MB, but upload is awful 0.07MB, and it seems to be an intermitant connection, fine one minute then nothing the next minute.

When I'm browsing the web or downloading stuff I don't notice the break as its only for second or so, but when playing games it results in me jerking all over the shop.

When playing MW2 on the PS3 I can watch the connection bars go up and down from max to min! Virgin say the line is fine, but I'll call them again for another rant.

Sounds like a Virgin Media problem. Identical to the issues I had with them 2 years ago. Luckily WipEout HD didn't suffer from jerky behavior but during periods of no communication, you lost the ability to pick up weapons or fire the weapon you had. After 30 seconds of failed communication, the game would kick you back to the lobby, just what you need during the 6th race of 8 in the semi-finals of a tournament!
