How much did games cost for the spectrum/C64/Atari ST /Amiga ?

Sometimes I wonder fi we have came forward, I would love to be back in the 70's-80's.

Should've gone to this then :D

I've got the complete C64, Amiga, and Atari ST GameBase collections right in front of me, and among the extras are a set of just over 3.300 game adverts, mostly from mags, for C64, Amiga, Atari St, Spectrum, and Amstrad as jpegs, a lot of them stating the prices.
Just a couple of random examples (prices in English Pounds). The tape versions are usually about 5 Pounds cheaper:

Chuckie Egg is marked for 19.95 Pounds (!!) for Amiga and ST
Killed until Dead for C64 and Amstrad at 14.99
Activision Space Shuttle 9.99 (C64)
Melbourne House, The Hobbit 14.99 (C64)
Starglider 17.99 (C64)
Adrian Mole 9.99

and there are loads of cheapos as well, such as special price ranges for just a few quid and cheapo development houses such as Interceptor Software.

If anyone is interested I can offer to upload these to a hoster and pm the links, but it would take a while, as it's almost a Gig in data.

I just had a lot of fun getting a blast from the past with all those old pictures :-)

£1.99 - Budget. I had so many codemasters games... I'd like to add that Dizzy was rubbish, before any insane fan boys turn up. :D

You sir.... are insane! :D

Incredible game!

Some of my other favorites from memory:

Jet Set Willy - An unforgiving game :(
Toy Bizarre - Loved this
Hungry Horace - Had it's own level builder!
Fort Apacolypse

There are so many, problem is they blur a bit with the Amiga and I can't remember which games I had on which machine. One of my all time favourites was Ghostbusters, but again can't remember if that was C64 or Amiga, C64 I think.

Edit: Lol, forgot about manic miner, donkey kong, beachhead and... attack of the mutant camels! :D

only used to buy the 1.99 mastertornic's for my c64, then used to rent the rest from a local comp shop and tape-to-tape, but some games had daft colour code sheets that you had to photocopy in B&W (no colour copiers freely available) and guess what each shade was :), then came along turbo lodaer and you could fit a bazillion games on a C90, just had to make a note of the tape counter for each game.

for the Amiga don't think I ever bought a game, used to go to a local pub where a room was rented out and about 40 nerdy teens swapping/copying the latest releases :)

Jet Set Willy - 7.99
Hungry Horace - 9.95
Manic Miner - 9.95
Beach Head - 19.99 (15.99 tape)
Attack of the Mutand Camels - 7.50

The others either don't have the price, or I haven't got the ad (History Line)

I bought all my games brand new on Amiga + C64 must have spent a couple of thousand doing that which was back then a massive amount of money to spend!

Same i still have boxes upon boxes in my attic of original titles for all computers and consoles.

Obviously with emulators you can pretty much play any game that was ever made from these era's.

I have often toyed with the idea of spending a year not playing anything new - only to pick a arbitrary year and only play games that were released in the corresponding months.

Best C64 track ever.

So good the real band in Stockholm performed it on stage.

Its a shame they dont make catchy tunes for games anymore. Nowadays music in games in so generic its forgotton.
Well the whole soundtrack of this game (13 songs) fits into 42.2 kB, so it takes about 3.25 kB per song on average. Btw., I didn't check the actual game code but the SID file I have on my PC.
Amazing!!!

I remember buying TMNT Coin-op for £9.99 (From Boots) in around 1991. Cartridge games were £24.99 or £19.99.

Budget games were £1.99 or £2.99.

Jet Set Willy - An unforgiving game :(
It was actually an impossible game - it was bugged on he C64 such that you could jump further going one way than the other (can't remember if it was left or right), which meant some section/s couldn't be done. TBF, it was still rock hard even besides that. Loved the music.

Wrong....Premium titles like Renegade, Starglider, Last Ninja or Famous arcade conversions were double that. The only game i can remember of the top of my head that was 4.99 was hardball and Starpaws. Not many came in at this price, it was either the £1.99, £2.99 or £8.95, £9.99.

Wrong... I know how much I paid.

Well funny how everyone else in this thread has said a similar price apart from you, i guess were all wrong and your right not that it matters now does it.
Well the OP has enough info now to see how much these games retailed for.
