Hi,

I've come back from uni and my mum has changed our package with virgin. We have the 4mb (going to change to 10mb apparently) broadband and the basic tv and phone for £27.

I think this is a bit pricey so I was wondering what you guys have.

Could I get a better deal with the tv for a similar price as we have been with them for years?

£19.99 for up to 8mb (i get around 2-2.5) on ADSL24.

Switching to O2 Broadband when my exchange is activated which is any time now, so i will be paying £7.50 for up to 24mb.

You can try ringing retentions and seeing if they'll offer a better deal, but if your mum's recently changed the package chances you'll be tied into a new 12 month contract and they won't play anyway.

Regardless their broadband L is £16, phone is £11 and basic TV is free with the phone. Their normal 3 for £30 package includes the 2mb broadband M, the same phone and better TV. As far as the competition goes Sky's cheapest package is £16, but that requires a BT land line so ends up costing the same and only includes 2mb broadband.

So £27 for what you're getting sounds about right and you're unlikely to get anything much cheaper. But it's all a bit irrelevant if you're locked in contract anyway.

We have the Virgin Media VIP package which is £85 a month for

20MB Broadband
Virgin Digital TV box (145 channels)
V+ Digital TV box (above but can record)
Sky Movies and Sky Sports on above
Phone Line (unlimited local and national calls any time for up to an hour)

Best to call them really. I know as a new customer you pay £26 just for the 20mb broadband for the first year (£36 thereafter).

Lifetime retention from VM cant/wont disclose price (totally sick of them) for Phone/BB 20meg/V+ but would rather have my old service from TW-BY and pay full price even if BB was still 10meg/384KB.

Why did I take the retainer ?, well I was told things would improve but they have declined, even if it was FREE I would still be looking elsewhere (ongoing).

£10.25 Line Rental
£19.99 Internet 330gb Allowance
£ 4.99 Unlimited UK National/Local calls with 20 World Wide destinations
+
£21.00 Sky Package
£11.00 TV License
-----
£67.23 Per month on phone internet and tv, jesus did realise until now how much it was!!

£27 sounds about right, but you could try and move to a 2 for £20 deal unless you've changed contract recently - that was for 4mb and Basic TV if I recall
Looking at the site seems that they offer it for £25 a month 2mb BB with XL TV - so you may be able to negotate a deal and up your TV to L or something...

As of right now I'm paying £70 for Virgin 20mbit cable, TV and phone. I'll be ditching it very shortly though as my BT line gets enabled on the 8th. When that happens I'll be paying:

£10.50 a month line rental
£21 for Sky TV
£32 a month for Be Pro with a /29 (£22 for basic service and £10 on top for the /29)

So £63.50 a month - still cheaper than Virgin, I'll get more TV channels, a /29 IP block and Internet with a faster upstream without the restrictions - I live very close to my exchange so 18 to 20mbit down and 2.5mbit up is a reasonable expectation. Although knowing my luck the pair I get put onto will probably have a completely illogical 3 mile route back to the exchange.

I might just do this.

I don't think I will go through the hassle of changing provided, unless anyone has an unbelievable deal with sky?
