How much do you save a month ?

what's there to lol about? quarters are a standard and frequently referenced period of time, esp in business, e.g. my bonus structures are based on a 3 month performance window.

would you 'lol' if he'd said "I'm getting married and plan to move into a new house ~ Jan to March time" ?

I think it's probably a laugh at future computer hardware release dates usually given in quarters.

For about the last 6 months my saving account has been going down...:(

Due to having overtime at work cut by around 20 hours per week and had I loads of really big bills come through this summer

Unfortunately I'm no longer in a position to save. With a wife who doesn't earn much, two kids, a large mortgage and a car my salary only just keeps our heads above water. I'm on a good salary so it is concerning how expensive life is for us. No it doesn't go on frivolous items either... we've had one holiday in 9 years and only changed the car last year because our other one was so old. We have only just replaced the old CRT TV too.

I certainly don't consider paying into a mortgage as saving because houses cost money to maintain, "savings" are wiped out by the mortgage interest and any price crash would wipe it out.

So yes, £500 a month is a good amount to save.

Tell me about it. :(

I'm glad I made this thread as its not only helped me loads but others too :)

Looks like a lot of us get sucked in to buying all the latest gadgets when in reality we don't need them at all ! we just need the basics to be happy .

Don't get me wrong I still want to spend 2k on New Canon DSLR but I will save for this over a 6 month period

I start off by putting £1000 into my savings account on pay day. Then the day before the next pay day I sweep my current account down to £500, putting the excess into my savings account.

This way I am always saving at least £1000 and I can still be flexible for the rest of the month and not leave myself short, and usually end up saving a lot more.

Except this month where I have bought a new PC and have an Xbox One to pay for :D

Im going to try and save more in the new year! not saving for anything in particular just going to try and make more of effort with it

You're right, it is perfectly normal for use in business. I'm always working with quarter end dates. I just found it very odd to hear someone leading their life by quarters.

You must have thought the same or you wouldn't have known what I was laughing at.
