How much do you use your iPad?

I've just got an iPad 2 and it's totally amazing. Nothing comes close to the browsing experience. After my iPhone it's my best purchase.

Don't think I need a Mac Air now either as it does everything I need a portable device to do.

p.s - I also got mine though a work purchase computer scheme.

Hardly ever, I can't get it off my girlfriend anymore. She sits with it permanently attached to her lap while watching TV.

It's the best thing I've bought in years, it keeps her quiet...... :D

What's in it for your employer? We all know a company laptop is to encourage you to work from home for nothing, so is this iPad scheme an extension of that? The real genuis being that you foot the bill for it as well!

I'm not trying to be horrible so don't take it personally - this was honestly the first question that popped into my mind. It would be an absolute master stroke if a company could make its employees buy their own mobile devices. Between cloud services and the "consumerization" of IT the changes over the next 10-15 years are going to be pretty interesting to watch.

No it would be for personal use only. Already have laptops and iPhone for work stuff. I'm home based anyway so "being available" at all times is something I'm already well used too :D

I think I might just get one, I was just worried it might be unused after the intial wow period but I think it'll be worth it just for the wife and daughter!

After one myself but don't know if I should wait until march or so for ipad3,what do you think

I dunno, it'll be the end of march I'd imagine and possibly a shortage so could be difficult to get hold of so possibly april before you can get hold of one... Nigh on 6 months away... For me there is no guarantee that it will be added to the company scheme straight away either. You can always play the waiting game for technology and never end up buying anything!

Like it how people are already expecting the next iPad in march lol.

I own an iPhone 4, iPad 2 and an iMac and use my iPad more than any day to day tbh. Go for it!

I use mine almost exclusively for web browsing, the pc is now only used for gaming and watching movies.

every day!

at work I listen to music or surf gaming sites that are blocked on my work machine (thanks to wireless hotspot from my phone). At home I use it for surfing when wanting to look at stuff quickly. When we go on holiday its great for movies, surfing on the move and useful "around me" apps.

In short its a great device! When I first got it my wife came out with the classic "what did you buy that for" now she uses it as much as me and wants her own!

Cheers all, I think I'm just going to get one :D

I assume as I can setup a wireless hotspot on my phone I have no need to go for the 3G version? There isn't any "undocumented features" that prevent this?

depends on your phone provider. Some dont like "tethering" and will charge more for it on their network. Personally I use an HTC wildfire and turn on wireless hotspot without any issue from my network provider.

Plus with the increased availability of free wifi in pubs, hotels, restaurants etc you're never far from a hotspot!

Yep, this is exactly what I do. To be honest I see no reason to get the 3G version unless you have a phone that isn't capable of wifi tethering. Maybe if you spend half your life on trains or the like it might be justified, but even then the wifi only model would be able to do the same as long as you have a smartphone with wifi tethering (which I'd hope they all do now), unless you're on a network/tarrif with horrific terthering charges.

I just might, thanks. 32GB would be best, do you think?

I think that there's a number of reasons to go for the 3G version:

1) When surfing on your 3G iPad, you aren't draining the battery of your phone. WiFi tethering is very battery intensive.
2) The iPad is a larger device and has a bigger aerial. I've noticed mine gets a strong 3G signal in places where my iPhone 4S doesn't.
3) Only the 3G iPad has GPS. Lots of apps use location-based services these days. If you want to use Maps on your iPad then the 3G iPad delivers a much better experience.

Admittedly, these reasons alone won't justify the £100 up-front + £5+ per month for a lot people.

When the iPad first came out I had a netbook, I could never justify getting a tablet because my netbook was cheaper and had a bigger capacity, but after a few months of using my netbook, I've started noticing what it lacked, and it's the games, I know I can get Angry Birds on Windows but the game play experience isn't the same at all.

Hence why i've asked for an iPad 2 for Christmas, also my netbook lacked HDMI capabilities, so I was forced to carry round a mass of A/V cables in order to connect my netbook to a HD TV.

So in the new year I will be replacing my netbook, with an iPad. My netbook has served me well for about 6 years

I use mine everyday and it has pretty much removed the need for me to replace my 4.5 year old white MacBook with something newer. It really has been money well spent.

My iPad 2 is only WiFi but it picks up my exact location in maps.
