Apologies if it's an obvious question, but i am relatively new to the world of custom PC's & i am just trying to learn as much as possible before i embark upon an online shopping expedition.

My current system has: 6GB CRUCIAL PC12800 DDR3 1600MHZ, is this currently OK or would i benefit (used mostly for gaming) from adding more..?
Another question if i may, how do i find out how much more RAM i would be able to add to my system, my motherboard details (if needed) are:

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R

Thanks.

6GB is currently more than enough to play even the most demanding games. In fact there's still not much evidence that more than 3 or 4GB is beneficial in gaming.

More ram will do nothing for you, you could add another 6GB (3 x 2GB sticks) or 12GB (3 x 4GB sticks) but if all you do is gaming then it would be pointless
