how much effect does it have on gpu temps when mounting the psu fan up or fan down?

as the title says really, just ordered the xfx 750w black edition modular psu(given up on ocz stealthxtreme 2 after the second one came back broken after rma, plus it's too loud and making wierd noises) for thursday and just wondering if to face it up or down

Ideally have the PSU intake fan facing away from the rest of your components and towards the outside so it receives cool air input. However, this all depends on whether your case has holes cut or a grill in place to allow you to do this. May I ask what make and model case you are using.?

here's a pic of the bottom, the manual says it can face down or up

From that picture I would say put the PSU fan facing up as there is no air intake directly under where the PSU sits.

It may effect GPU temps slightly (especially if the GPU air intake in near the PSU one), but there really isn't an alternative other than drilling holes in the bottom of your case or buying a new one.

If their are vent slits, place the psu with the fan facing the floor of the case. Cool air will be drawn in by the psu and vented out the back of it. To avoid dust intake, (particularly if you have carpet), place a thin piece of wood below the vented area on the floor of the case.

This is how mine is installed.

Vents on case floor and the back of the case, psu also sits on raised rails to help air intake.

the crap one i have in now is facing up, it seems to be sucking in the cool air off my side fan, so if i mount it down the gpu should get more cool air from this fan

+1 to all of this

To the OP: The picture you posted didn't really show the vent slits, may I ask again what the make and model of your case is?
