Hi.. Basically im an idiot, and I know im an idiot so please, i dont want any flaming. And my 1.4 clio is now written off apparently.. Basically 1 of the wheels isnt attached, but the back axles fine. The boot wont shut which im really confused about as the cars chassis doesnt look bent. Thats all thats wrong with it. The engine has 58000 miles on it. Its a 1997 S maxim model. Does anyone know how to fix a boot which doesnt shut, is there anyway to bend it back into shape?

£800 for a written off 1997 Clio 1.4? You could get a perfectly good one for less than that.

Id say more like £300 tops depending on category etc.

the hammer was a if the car is going to scrap solution, if you want to get it to shut without destroying it you'll need to find out what is out of line (the boot lid or something a lot more serious).

are the seams at each side of the boot lid lining up perfectly with the wings?

If you do manage to repair it for anything less than buying another it's days are going to be numbered not to mention it probably won't be safe in the event of another accident.

it shuts fine but its just the boot is off centre to the right a bit ie it keeps banging on the right break light and thats got a crack in it now, do you think theres any way to fix it? Shall i take some pictures

either the boot lid is bent which would mean bending it back the other way or maybe it has given at the hinge which would also be bent back depending on its design

i'm sure people could be more specific if pictures were put up

Doesn't sound too good, as everyone is saying, it'll be cheaper and safer to scrap this one and buy another, no matter how much you like it. It's an old, cheap car...I say old, it's newer than anything I've ever had. :p

I'm guessing you probably won't say, but I'm intrigued as to how you've removed a wheel and buckled the boot.

On the topic of wheels, is it a front or rear that isn't attached, and how is it not attached?

basically i curbed it majorly at speed = wheel fell off and chassis buckled. All im gonna say.. Does anyone know what order the wheel connected to the axle goes in ie Axle, Drum brake, Brake, wheel? As the drum brake is cracked on one of the wheels so ill need to fix that and I think the brake is snapped. Ill take some pictures tomorow

why bother trying to repair it?
as mentioned previously, it probably isn't going to be particularly safe in the event of a more serious accident..
scrap it and get another car

If the shell has distorted from hitting the wheel then you should probably forget fixing it, it's scrap yard fodder now. Attempting to fix this kind of damage on an old, common and cheaply available car is simply not economically viable, and is quite likely to be outside the realms of a DIY repair. If you hit it hard enough to rip a wheel off the chances of the rear axle being fine are very, very slim indeed.

Scrap it!!!

not worth it, in time, and money.

if it was a 16v or williams then yes, but its not.

All i am gunna say is...

Did you "Always stick to the speed limit"?

In fairness he didn't want to say and I asked, and he also didn't want flaming for what he's done, just some information as to what he can do, so that's a bit harsh.*

I just went onto Autotrader, a 1997 Renault Clio will cost £700 for a decent condition one, so you car, being busted is only worth a couple hundred, if that...and that'd be to a private seller. To a garage/scrappy you won't get much if anything for it.

*I do agree that if you preach it, practice it though.
