How much for utilities?

Your £50/month sounds a bit excessive, though.

~£400/8 months, so I guess it's only ~£35/month

You have to pay separately for water? How does that work? - metered? Can you switch supplier?

Nope, the amount is based on how much your property would have been to rent in 1990 and your supplier is based on which area you are in.

Following on from this thread, I worked out my usage, and with a meter it would actually go down to about £20/month, so I'm getting one fitted on Saturday :p

I think the general rule of thumb is, if there are less people than bedrooms in the house, then a meter is best.

Unless you have an addiction to baths and the sound of running water!

GF and I just bought a 3 bed Semi

Over a month we used 177 units elect and 53 units gas
Our Direct debit estimate from Ovo is £36 for summer and £40 for winter!
Sounds mad but we seem to use so little! Professional couple out at work 8-6 but I have PC,Xbox,PS4 40" LED TV, 32" LED TV. Tumble dryer (Which she uses at the min being winter).

I gave edf a meter reading last night and they think the best thing to do is double our direct debt to £150/month! madness....

They still insist on basing the rest of the years usage on the previous owners (a family of 4 who ran the heating all day, every day)
We've used 1770kwh of gas in the last 122 days and they suggest we're going to use another 17562 until July next year. On electric we've used 1437kwh and they think we'll use another 2644 (which is reasonable)

Problem is I don't have any numbers to give a new supplier and no idea how to work out our annual usage.

I've just paid a £99 gas bill based on meter reading for August to middle of November and thats without a daily standing charge (Ebico tariff).
