How much is your water bill?

I'm supplied by United Utilities. Currently paying £87.60 month. No meter, but one requested.
Finally had a meter fitted just over a week ago.
Had £72 compensation added to my account because they took so long to sort it out.
Next payment due: £43.36. Based on estimated usage for 2 people. So basically half what I was previously paying.
Will be interesting to see just how much water is actually used.

leaky cistern ballcock is the usual reason ... we/cambs now have meters that can be read remotely , not sure if they are networked, so they should be able to tell me if there is a continuous leak.

spent 30mins+ on phone with waterboard today (again) pressure is regularly dropping by 1/3rd in early evening,
we live at altitude, but they don't seem to have any remote flow data to tell if this is down to upped domestic consumption/hoses,
or, diagnose something like commercial/farming contracts where they just turn the taps on in the evening.

Had my first bill... £250 for 6 weeks... Definitely not right as the meter reading from the 'start' of the 6 weeks is listed as an estimate, but the end is an actual reading that someone took.

Tempted to challenge it straight away but not had a bill in about 3 years so basically had free water all that time..

Think I'll just wait for the next one to arrive then compare, as it will be a lot more accurate, then tell them first one was wrong.

For that to happen you need to have missed the visuals of the water running down the bowl, the noise it would make, and the massive stain running down the bowl too. It's quite rare nowadays unless you live in an area with very hard water.

Definitely something that people should be checking though.

If I understand this correctly...

The Water Special Measures Bill has come into effect as of June 2025 which compels water companies to improve the network (which they should have been doing, instead of raping dividends out of the company to pay shareholders). It also contains extra powers to hold the companies to account, as well as makes demands on them to reduce and report in near real time the release of sewage into waterways.

The Tories made it easier to water companies to release sewage during their tenure, and the networks should have been investing in their service instead of raping the piggy bank.

And yet somehow, we're the ones who foot the bill in the way of price rises.

Riiiiiight.

I let the wife use the garden hose the other night as all 9 water butt's are just about empty.
Did check meter before and after and was surprised she only used 0.01 cm. she did say she cut back a bit so happy with that.
Just trying to make up my mind and pressure wash the car -Due in for MOT Thursday.

Being an island doesn't really help with water unless you have expensive desalination plants for drinking sea water. NZ has a lot of water because it has lots of mountains, rain and snow lands on these mountains and then flows down into dams, lakes and rivers
