How much of a bottleneck is my CPU?

I have an MSI GTX660 graphics card and my current CPU is a Core 2 Quad Q8200 @2.33GHz which I bought 4 years ago, how much will I benefit from upgrading this to new tech?

Depending on the game in question you should see a fair improvement is fps, especially minimum fps.

Can you give a few examples of current games you play?

Also, are you running the cpu at stock speeds or at an overclock?

I'm playing Blacklight Retribution at the moment, i don't really play new games on PC (this might change soon). CPU is running at the stock speeds

If modern games aren't a primary concern then the cpu should be fine until it becomes a problem for all-round functionality.

Maybe a better investment of time and money would be to an aftermarket cooler and a respectable overclock. Hell, the q8200 has even been known to run 3Ghz on stock cooling!

Cool, I was just curious thats all, i'm definitely due for an upgrade soon where I'll be changing out my CPU, mobo, and RAM because its all from a machine I bought 4 years ago. Even though I think I'll only see a slight improvement in games I think that I'll see a big difference in general computer use

I assume you're running ddr2 ram, yes? You'll definitely feel the 'snappier' feel about your pc with an upgrade to your ram and a new cpu.

The Q series is still a good un'. People swear by it on these forums!

A 2.8Ghz overclock might just scratch the upgrade itch while you wait

It has served me well I must admit. I've never had a problem with it. Thats probably because I've got an Arctic Pro Rev 2 on the thing
