Decided to upgrade the OS drive as I keep running out of space and having to shuffle everything across to another larger HDD, but upon surfing here for a better SSD I now notice there are Pcie type HDD's :rolleyes:

Much confusion is now ensuing as I have no idea what fits what any more :D
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

So how many other components am I going to have to change to fit the latest type of.. is it M2?? type HDD's into the system as a boot drive.
I have picked up on there being a few issues with getting Win7 to boot, assuming this is just during install rather than all the time?
Once overcome I assume this is the way forward?

Currently running an Asus CrosshairvFormula which is only pcie 2 I believe
I take it I need a pcie 3 board with an m2 connector?

Will my R9 280X fit a pcie 3 slot? (a couple of spec sheets suggest pcie3 is backwards compatible..

Current System spec for info
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64-bit) Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor
6089 MB RAM
ASUS Crosshair V Formula
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
SSD OCZ Agility 3 -C: 111.6GB
HDD (old) - D: 232.8GB
HDD WD blue Scorpio Q: 456.7GB
Seasonic gold 1050w PSU

Help :D

Why do you need/want one? It doesn't sound like your SATA ports are being particularly effectively-utilised (a 250GB HDD, really?!) so why not sort that out and get a bigger SATA SSD in the process?

the 250GB is one old HDD that happens to have survived that at least has some file structure when I want to find some older docs and pics... it's nothing more than decoration really.. It isn't used as such, just plugged in because I can...
(and the fact the attic PC that had all my other old HDD's in, fell over permanently a while back)

If I am going to the trouble of re-installing the OS on anything at all I want to push ahead a little in speed / transfer rates to future proof things a bit more.
I'm "effectively utilising" the new technology as far as I can see.
