My current monitor is a Dell 22" 1680x1050 2209WA and i've always been very happy with it and enjoyed the colours of the IPS panel.

If I were to buy 24" 1080p monitor for £200-250 would the higher res offer a noticeable improvement for the money? I know that might be hard to answer because 'noticeable' can mean different things to different people.

Also bear in mind that I have just bought a 280x (see sig for other specs) and wouldn't be able to crossfire after spending the cash on a new monitor.

Cheers.

There isn't that much of a difference between your res and 1080P in truth and a hard call. Dell are a good brand as well, so I imagine the image you have to be pretty decent.

Screen real estate is always a bonus but is it worth spending to get a slightly bigger screen and a few more pixels.

Yeah im not that bothered about getting a bigger screen I just wasnt sure if my 280x would be under utilised at 1050 and whether 1080 actually offers a significantly sharper image.

Did the move some time back and had no regrets.

You do see the improvement in both size and pixel no's every time you switch on - unlike a lot of upgrades you do notice the change.:)

Provided you could get something for your existing screen , are not intending going 1440/4k in the next couple of years and your gpu will cope then if I were you I would probably go for it.

And if you like Dell , ocuk have the Dell Studio (va panel I think) 24" on special at the moment for just under £170 (and they do do an IPS 23" panel)

If I remember correctly I started with a 14" crt >15"crt (flatscreen) > `19"crt > 20" lcd > 24" lcd to current 27" lcd (1440)
I have NEVER regretted upgrading monitors - cpu's , gpu's etc , I wondered why I'd bothered sometimes :( but going for a bigger screen and more pixels ... Never
