We all know most good 2Gb SD cards cost about £17 to about £30 depending on the speed and who made it. Now I was shocked to find that simply changing the casing to wight and putting a Wii stamp on it can change the price of a 20 odd pound SD card to £50 give or take a few pence. I'm shocked and disgusted by it. The place selling them at this price suppose of got an award for being the best gaming retailer. (what a joke I always said only idiots shop there)

I have seen them cheaper but still over 40 odd pounds

Not really suprising companies doing it nor the general public falling for it.

I just got a 1gig Sony Pro Duo memory stick for my phone for £10, you just have to look around. The highstreet price has now turned into the lazy you want it now price, the net is where the normal prices are.

I've learn a lot of countfit memory sticks are sold on the famous auction site so I don't think I'll buy one from anyone on there.

I am not talking about auction sites. :)

any branded product tends to get a premium, look at Sony memory sticks and the Sandisk equivilent (I beleive they are identical bar the packaging/stamping on them), add in the Highstreet premium and you get a very large jump in price.

Irony?

You seem to be having a go at a store for no reason. The Wii stamped cards are the same price all over, as set by Nintendo.

No because its only that store I've seen selling it at that high price. That even as the nerve ta sell numchuks and classic controllers for £17.99 where every other store sells them for £14.99.

I wouldnt usually concur with grammar checks, but you did use "wight" and i think you meant the hue: white.

+ It is standard for branded items to come with a premium. People like to think they work better with the item they are buying it for and often wont know better.

He has a good point, but if you could get away with it would you not? ;)

O and when did this become a spelling test?!

Ever seen official Xbox link cables? They cost about £20 for a 10 metre cable despite the fact that it's just a normal ethernet cable.

Please pick up a dictionary, your spelling is shockingly bad. Spend less time playing games and more time in school.

How incredibly rude!

yeah they all do it, look at the ipod :( sony duo mem cards, TomTom official sd cards etc

You can't really compare to TomTom official memory cards as these cards usually come with software on them which is ultimately what you're paying for.

Do you have to buy a Wii branded one, or will any SD Card do ?

I would imagine any SD card would do seeing as there is no way an SD card can be paired to any device.

Yep, any SD card will do. Doesn't have to be Ninty-branded. The idea is that you use the one you use for your mobile phone, camera, etc... and plug it in to the Wii, so they use the standard format otherwise you wouldn't be able to use it in your other devices.

Oh, and my local supermarket (where they all go around tapping their backsides and smiling a lot) charges ridiculous prices for these cards too, so it's not just the gaming stores.

Really? I've just checked the three major stores that I use for (cheaper than high street cost) gaming bits, and all of them are selling the Wii stamped SD cards for exactly the same price.
They're not inflating the price, they're just not reducing it from the RRP, as set by Nintendo.

splitz - any SD card should indeed work. We're currently using a 2Gb kingston SD card, which was around £17 from one of the same places charging £50 for the 2Gb Wii card ;).

Do the Sandisc Ultra II work with the Wii? I hear the speed on them is x150. Which should hopefully improve the insanely long data transfers.
