How much performance am i losing running a 6870 in a pci-e v1 slot?

Resurrected an old AM2 pci-e 1 x16 machine to play some games on, picked up a 6870 from MM and am currently blasting my way through Crysis all over again, but i get very occasional lag where the screen stops updating for a second then jumps to where i should be.

Is this a pci-e issue or am i just being a fussy muppet? Do i have an excuse to trawl MM for a newer board?

Your freezes are probably due to the lack of Vram.

It might help running it in dx9 mode. I did that when I had a 6850. I set mine in steam via the launch options but I think you can modify shortcuts if you have the retail game.

edit: Completely forgot I've owned a 6870 as well.
