how much performance can you get out of a 6870 roughly?

Have one on the way as an upgrade from my 5770. It only has the stock cooler however generally speaking (I know it varies model to model) what kind of performance will I be able to push it to?

I am happy with stock 6870 performance but would like to push it further. Can I get it to 560ti levels?

Overclock it and you will get past the stock 560Ti performance without any problems.

the 6870 and 560ti are on par in terms of performance. Like Mr Krugga said overclock it and it will run faster than a stock 560 ti.

Thats great, as 560ti performance and above was what I was hoping for.

Assuming my card is a good overclocker, how close can I get it to a 6950 (running at 1080p)?

No...6870 is on par with the GTX560, not the GTX560Ti. It is the 6950 1GB that's on par with GTX560Ti.

6870 doesn't overclock significantly - maybe 6-7% realworld fps gain on average, gonna struggle to top a stock 560ti with it no matter the overclock.

There's really not that much of a difference between the two cards either.

With a decent 6870 he will be able to overclock it by some 8-12% which in turn should give him 6.5-9.5% in real world performance increase.

Wherever the performance difference is great than 10%, the fps is pretty consistent at a high level (close to 60 fps average or higher) already so it does not matter much (putting Civ 5 case aside, since that is one title with heavily tessellated map).

The 6870 will consume less power than the 560ti as well

Seems I made the right choice.

I intend to get one of the new 7xxx series or 6xx series cards late this or early next year, but I wanted/needed more GPU power now for current games and the likes of BF3/Skyrim as my 5770 wasn't quite going to cut it.

Got the new 6870+dirt 3 and deus ex codes (which I will sell) for £125 delivered so:

Sell 5770: £50
sell two game codes: £30

means a net spend of £45, and then I will overclock the card to 560ti levels of performance. Sweet.

If you're getting the 6870's get the VTX ones. The cooler is absolutely amazing, I have 2 in x-fire and the top card never goes above 62c under load and due to it's big fan it's really quiet too.

I have ordered the powercolour 6870. Yes I know their RMA service is poor but it comes with a 1 year warranty from the place ive bought it from anyway and my 5770 is powercolour and has been going strong for almost 2 years with no issues, and the card has good recommendations from people who have it.

Great bang for buck upgrade I think @ £45!

Why is that odd?

The 5870 is around 10% faster with about the same overclocking potential whilst 5850 will at least be as fast as the 6870 when both are overclocked.

The 6800 series were a replacement for the 5700 cards.

Superior Crossfire scaling with the latest generation makes these cards even more appealing to people who don't mind multi-gpu configurations. For the cost of £200 (two 6870s on offer for £250 and over £30 worth of game vouchers) you get a setup that will be faster than any single-gpu solution.

Dont get one with the stock cooler, it is truly awful.

It does the job but my card is at 60C most of the time even at idle which I think is too hot. This thanks to the genius way in which 120Hz monitors seem to require the idle clocks to be a bit higher than normal.

It's odd because it should be faster than a single 5870 as the 6850 is ever so slightly faster than the 5850
