How much power do hard drives use?

How much power do hard drives use? In my server I've got a 400w PSU and currently 6 HDDs (5 WD Greens and a Samsung of some sort). The CPU is a moderate C2D and that's about it power drain wise.

How many HDDs do you think I could run off that? There are 2 groups of power leads coming from the PSU with 3 HDDs on each at the moment.

Read the label on the hard drive(s).

It'll vary depending on the drive.

The biggest "hit" is on startup.

Cheers surveyor. Looks like I've got plenty of headroom with 6 drives. I've only got slave for 2 more in the case, and they should be fine.
