How much power does your computer use?

Been measuring how much electric my computer uses with my plugin meter. Just the base unit, mind - not with the monitor and adaptors connected.

My own readings:
5 watts - Standby
154 watts - After startup to desktop, and everything loaded in system tray
238 watts - 2x Prime95 (one on each core)
283 watts - ATI Tool (3D View) + 2x Prime95 (one on each core)
250 watts - ATI Tool (3D View)

Curious to see what everybody else gets.

Not sure if this belongs in GH or GD, so posted in GD to be on the safe side.

I googled for power monitor and mine is in the 2nd result. It cost me about £12 + P&P at the time.

That doesn't sound too bad, 270W, you hear all this news about huge power supplies.

Perhaps they'll quote wattages on games in the future.

Might be worht it to try energy monitor too... at a certain online auction site perhaps...

Edit: I was so beaten... :( people post too fast

My Shuttle system with the processor at idle uses 80-90w with the monitor off (115w with it on).

AMD64 3000+
2x 200GB HDD
1GB RAM
Onboard graphics/sound.

I'd say it's fairly economic with power. The Xbox 360 on the other hand uses 160w just sitting at the dashboard, 200w when playing a game and 15w when on standby.

For a low-cost but decent quality power meter see ... http://www2.westfalia.net/shops/tec.../test_appliances/222832-energy_cost_meter.htm
