How much rest between exercise ?

Usually the best rest I find is to have a day off every other day.. so you train one day, rest the next, train the next, rest the next.. and so on. sometimes its good to take a couple of days off though just to get an extra rest.

I find it difficult to get into a rhythm if I do that. I go 2 or 3 days and then have a rest day.

The 'rest days' usually consist of playing football or taking the young un out on the fields and playing cricket or somesuch.

I cycle on my commute and tend to take the weekend off. I'm usually pretty tired by Friday if I've been going for it. It was a lot worse when I first started though, and is a lot easier now. I can add in a bit of running as well as the cycling and just soak it up.

If you've just started and it's muscle pains, you'll stop getting them after about 2 weeks tops. After then it's just general fatigue by the end of the week because your muscles are used to being used. 20 miles a day is quite a lot though. If you're not doing it because you have to maybe think about dropping the distance or cycling more gently until you're used to it.

I can't get into a one day off/on pattern. I usually weight train 3 days in a row, push/pull splits and then 4th day my rest would be cardio, etc.....

I go to the gym 4 days a week (mon, tues, thurs, fri) which is different to both the other posts. Point being, you will have to find what works best for you, and what you find most enjoyable that will keep you motivated to keep going as you will easily burn out if you continue doing every day training.

Its not always 20 depends on the mood im in, if im feel in the exploring mood i can cycle for miles, more often than not though it averages out at approx 9 miles a day of cross country cycling.
