How much should I expect to pay for a macbook?

Flogged my Late 2009 MacBook (Unibody) 2.26/2Gb/250GB 13.3" for £420 recently. Hope that gives you some indication.
 
So your GF wants to buy a discontinued product for aesthetic reasons? How odd, especially as the Air that replaced the MacBook looks a lot better.

I'd say you're looking at spending £400.
 
You can still get the white Unibody Macbooks but I think they are only available for educational purposes. There should still be a few floating around, an yeah I'd agree with the £400 price mark too.

She is odd! I prefer the look of the air as well. Suppose you can't force her to prefer silver aluminium to white plastic... personal preference. All she does is browse the web... so doesn't need any grunt. Just a "pretty" laptop.

I'm up against it :p
 
Aesthetics aside, a macbook with a SSD might well be better than an Air.

I have a 60Gb SSD in mine and web browsing is pretty quick. However, since my iTunes library is well over 60Gb it does have its limitations. :)

It will be heading to the Bay shortly, as I have recently replaced it with an MBP.
