How much sleep

Sleep patterns vary because my shifts are mixed between day shifts and night shifts.
My standard rota can consist of...

3 days and 2 nights or
2 days and 3 nights or
2 days and 2 nights

I usually go to bed at about 2300-2330 and get up at 0445 for a day shift. For a night shift I go to bed at about 0830 and get up at 1600. It's very taxing on the body sometimes, but I get the advantage of getting 5 days off after a set of shifts so i can recover and I get 30 days holiday a year also :-)

I aim for been in bed between 10:30-12 depending how i feel and up at 7 for work. Don't like staying up till 3 on weekends and getting up at 12, half the days gone then.

Some recent tests that were carried out (bbc news somewhere, cba to find it :p), said to little sleep can decrease your life expectancy and too much sleep maybe a sign you are unhealthy.

8-9 hours is recommended, under 6 hours is seen as too little probably 11-12+ considered too much.

About 9 hours is perfect for me, sometimes get more, sometimes less.

There is no way I can have naps though, once I'm asleep I am not waking up for a while if I can help it!

I was always envious of kids that lived right next to school. The advantages were great!

I was quite the opposite, the amount of fun the trip back home with friends was, made going to school worth it.

I remember at a point I was going into school, because I was looking forward to the journey home so much, it was so much fun. :D

/edit

back on topic, i have to be up 7.30-8 for work, so I really should be in bed by 12 latest to get decent sleep, especially as I go gym 3 times a week so need sleep even more, but always end up going about 1-2, and am alwaysss sooo tired at work. I actually woke up about 30 mins ago from a 3 hour nap cos I was dead today... gonna be hard to fall asleep again properly within the next couple hours...so will probably be tired again tomorrow..argh!

When I'm off school (like atm) I get around 9-10 hours, but in term time I go to bed at any time from 11:30PM to 2AM and up at 6:45, so between 7h15m and 4h45m - seriously not enough and I wish I got more, I just always seem to run out of time in the evenings :(

Generally go to bed at about 10pm (get to sleep between 10.30pm and 11pm). Then get up between 5am and 6am.

Unfortunately having a young family I rarely get an undisturbed nights sleep and will usually be up at least once a night - can sometimes be every 30-60 minutes.

I used to keep myself boosted through the day using red bull / coffee / pro plus but this often left me feeling awful. Changed to drinking far more water through the day and this has helped far more than I thought it would.

With so much on-demand entertainment in our homes many people burn the candle both ends because sleep is boring.
I am on of these people. As 2am crawls around I'll start the "just one more game/reddit link/stumble... and generally get into bed in time for an even 6 hours, up at 8:15 for work.

I like to sleep for 8+ hours a day, otherwise I feel tired, I wish though I was like some of you, kinda cool to sleep 5-6h and not feel tired the next day.
