How much time can PSU works without troubles?

I replaced a 9 year old Corsair AX860 last week, one of the best reviewed PSUs ever. The fan bearings had started to rattle, which triggered the upgrade. Even good hardware goes bad in time. Subsequently I've noticed a major reduction in DLSS3 stuttering issues on certain titles. I didn't expect that that PSU would cause GPU issues, but there it is.

I'd agree with most folks here, replace after warrenty is ended, but it's also a good idea to match the PSU to the hardware. If you buy a GPU/platform that's designed for a new PSU spec, it's probably wise to consider it.

As I recently posted - anything built in the last 10 years or so should last pretty well (10 years easy) - though I'd always err on the side of caution due to the potential for causing problems to other hardware in the system.

The problem used to be with PSUs built before that - up until around 2007/8 or so PSUs could be subject to what was called "capacitor plague" which meant running them beyond around 10 years was risky combined with older PSUs having less in the way of safety features increasing the chances of catastrophic failure if something went wrong.

I've just bought a 1200w Asus ROG THOR because it is a rebadged Seasonic, and in my opinion it is Seasonic or nothing. Is it overkill for my needs, possibly. Should I have waited for a ATX 3.0, maybe. Considering all the fire hazard concerns (which is why I believe not many brands have released them yet) and AMD ignoring the new connector this generation, I think I'll wait until they're confirmed safe. And, been adopted more mainstream.

All that said, to mirror others I wouldn't be risking my other components with an old, unknown psu. If it lacks the necessary protections, when it goes pop, it's likely to kill the rest of your system. Don't skimp out, get yourself the absolute best you can afford and it will be with you for the next 10 years.
i am thinking of getting the thor 1200w, is yours the newer thor 2 or the black one, you still happy with it ? thx

Yep good idea

The PSU is the gate keeper to your entire PC, never cheap out on the PSU
I agree with @Grim5 on this. Likes tyres or brake pads for a car. Your tyres are the only point of contact with the road and as such, the second most important part of keeping you safe. The brakes are almost as important a part for not making you dead so a third. The first of course is not driving like an onanist!

Just clocked my Thermaltake Toughpower XT 1275W ' 80 Plus GOLD' is 9 years old. Complete overkill but it's from my brief stint in mining and served me very well.

Might be time to upgrade.

I have the Toughpower 850w, purchased in 2011 - 12 years old. Still running nicely with a 7600x 6750xt rig. Will keep it going for now.

Decades if you buy a decent one...

..and by decent I'm not refering to a platinum 1.2 megawatt PSU.

They don't tend to break unless you overload them or if they were under-spec'd in the first place.

Only reason I binned my corsair Hx520 is because the fan got old and loud, I made an attempt to swap the fan out but I couldn't get it to work properly, so that was that.

It really makes me laugh when people say 'my PSU 10 yr warranty is about to expire, should I buy a new one?'

No you should not. You bought a high quality PSU for exactly this reason.
