How much to charge?

Having gone through a lot of the experiences stated above I have now decided to say NO or "what the hell is a pee cee?" to everyone but close family.
You get bored of it fast or at least I did.

I'm doing a build for a guy at work, and I'm taking his old bits as payment.

X600 XT
Undisclosed P4 processor and Zalman HSF
Asus P5AD2 Premium
1GB Corsair XMS DDR2 RAM

Should few me a few bob in MM :D

Since I work with computers all day, I only want to play games on them outside of office hours, rather than troubleshooting for someone I hardly know. I'll gladly help out my computer illiterate parents and maybe a good friend or two if it comes to it, but nothing further than that.

If you enjoy it, fair play. If you don't, then you have to be pretty careful not to get a reputation as "someone who'll fix computers for nothing", or you'll soon be helping out everyone's family and friends.

so sodding true. Moved house to a new area where the pc dont have any clue about pc's.

I had 6 neighbours asking to fix their pcs :rolleyes:

They all were offering around £50-£100 :eek: but my parents told me not to take any..... so I have a lot of goodwill now............:(

Shame, you could have had a nice little business by now. :cool:

Me personally, I agree with above about using it as a parts upgrade route.

Generally, my price structure would be:-

Family = £0 (upgrade opportunities legitimate)
Friends = £Beer
Anyone else = £Market rate (only trouble with that would be after sales responsibilities)
