How much to Charge??

If you think about it, building a pc and installing the os, then doing all the updates can easily take up 3 hours, depending on hard drive size as well as your internet connection of course.
So by some peoples rationale thats about £5/hour, or minimum wage.....for a technical job?
Nutters!

Technical job? I'd say a monkey could install an OS by now but maybe I'm being a bit harsh, it does require a smidgeon of knowledge but very little since it is mostly down to following instructions.

I'd check that there was either a broadband connection available there or take the PC to my home to use the connection and charge accordingly but it shouldn't take you 3 hours to install Windows even if you are installing all the updates (which can usually be set up and left running).

It takes time to wipe HDD fully and install Windows Clean, then install updates and multiple reboots.

I would not even go and touch a PC for any of the cash amounts above and this is my living and no I dont screw peeps over or charge an arm and a leg but I aint a charity and do need to make a living.

£20 cash in hand + few beers to build a PC + install Windows (even if 3 years ago)

Yeah your mum is so doing him...
Getting to know your new stepdad :D

Ha ha only kidding mate, i'd say as long as he makes the coffee and provides me with plenty of hobnobs, free.
Or around £5-10 is fair.

I always ask for £15

Thats to do anything software related. OS, Crap Cleaning, Email setups, Virus Removal.

If it's something like RAM, I usually add a few quick onto the price of the RAM, and charge £20 for installing it. That's the same for any hardware.

If I go cheap, I get hounded, I'm still cheaper than taking it into a PC shop, but it makes them think twice about bothering me for silly things.

STFU! :p

I want to know how much hes been quoted in town. For the reason he said it would have cost looads!

Purple shirts charge £50 to just put a hard drive into a computer last I checked, That's even if you buy it from them too. So considering that takes about 3 minutes, Including the time it takes to open and close the case, I'm sure an OS install is pricey.

£30 i'd say

install the os, and a few standard things like spybot s&d, spyware blaster, windows updates

firefox & adblock plus (& easylist subscription)

personality, don't charge anything, just say chuck us a few pints down the pub,

that can be worth £20 in a few places, and as the OP is over 18 its all cool

Add the no script add on for firefox as well :)

Note: Spywareblaster is now version 4.0 :) :) Also spywareblaster is one word not two, there was a fake one spyware blaster so be careful you get the right one.

There are a lot of fake versions of spybot, be careful don't install these.

be carefull... you may think your just doing this, but he may start to use you for all tech support. Soon you will be asked to come over because a popup has come up saying he has a virus, or he wants to install a game and it didnt work, or hes just got a new machine, how do i copy the data.....

Yep been there done that! Got the mousemat.

You installed the os and apps, so when they get a virus six months later you fix it free of course!

£10-£20 an hour.
Depending on your relationship.
Regardless if its may seem simple to you, Its obviously not simple to him.
