I'm building water cooling setup for the first time in a standard size case (V1000+) with the rad to be mounted outside the case. How much tubing do I need to get?
One more question: 3/8" is the same thing as 8mm ID?

Well it all depends on the routing tbh. I used about 3mtrs in a P180 but there isn't much space in my pc so a lot of routing was needed. Better to have too much than too little imo - I bought 5 mtrs which gives me some backup should I want to redux the loop again.

Thanks for the answers.

So if the waterblock comes with a barb fitting of 3/8" the the internal diameter of the tubing needs to be 10mm, is that correct?

I think you will find that the 3/8" refers to the inside diameter. 3/8" is 9.525mm. Also tubing wall thickness will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so the outside diameter will vary. All the 10mm tubing i have found refers to the outside diameter and the inside is only 7.5mm or 8mm.

Have you purchased any components yet? If not then you should consider 1/2" as it's less restrictive and you will get better results.

Ditto that.

And you can pick up some real bargains on the Members market if looking at 1/2" ;)

I've purchased the Swiftech MCP350 12 VDC Pump with the Alphacool acrylic top which I think comes with both the 3/8 and 1/2 barbs. I havent purchased the blocks yet but I want the Swiftech Apogee Extreme and Swiftech MCW60-B VGA Waterblock. I think they come with just 3/8 fittings. How easily can they be changed to 1/2 fittings?

I am sure you can get those in 1/2" fittings even if they did'nt it would just be a case of changing the barbs. Just make sure they are the right thread. Not all the barbs are the same. Some have a tapered thread and some have a straight thread.

The 1/2" steel reinforced tubing is ok. I had to use a length to go between my graphics cards as there is only a single card gap between them and the 7/16" tubing i have would'nt bend that tight (even with coolsleeves) without kinking. I got a length of that stuff and hey presto it worked. You can get a really tight bend with it before it kinks. I had to use a cable tie though as it is really tough stuff and all it wants to do is straighten out again. A cable tie placed across the loop solves this problem.

Buying the right tubing in UK is a pain in the a*s. I've decided to go for Tygon ID 7/16" (11.1mm) + 5/8" (15.9mm)tubing. Is that a right choice?

Just do like me, buy a 30 meter roll of xspc 1/2" ID tubing and shove it in the shed.. I'm laughing!

And XSPC tubing is fantastic, especially given it costs per meter what tygon seems to cost per foot and being as I've managed a very tight SLI loop with it and managed enough tight turns to get 2 loops into a lian li pc65 with it I shan't be hearing any criticism.

Thick walls is what anti kinking is all about and xspc has very thick walls.
