How much would it cost to put these MOT advisories right?

I’m looking for a new car, just a cheap runaround, and I’ve found an i20 that fits the bill in every way, except... I checked the MOT and it turned up these slightly worrying advisories. My question is how much would these cost to fix, because I’ll need to factor this cost in?

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
  • Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated both (5.3.4 (b) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Front Inner Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement both (5.3.4 (a) (i))

£100?

Look at the prices of inner suspension arms. But really that's a minor thing. I wouldnt read that as worrying at all tbh.

Thats just wear and tear on suspension parts/bushes.

Arms are 30 quid on ebay each plus fitting...

Had a lower ball joint completely replaced recently - £28 part, £75 labour but that included some other diagnostic work in the labour as I wanted them to check something on the suspension as well.

i20 lower arms look to be about £60 a pair. I can't comment on labour costs but I would imagine 30-60 minutes a side to fit them.

These are normal wear items with age and mileage, they are not anything worrying.

The car has about 50,000 miles on it. So this is to be expected?

Would you guys get both things done at the same time?

Yes, certainly not unexpected. I've seen dead lower arms at 30,000 on some FWD car - or even less.

The lower arm should cover both of your advisory points in the majority of cases.

Front arms do an awful lot of work in a conventional suspension setup - load bearing, steering, restricting lateral movement and acting as a pivot point - its a lot for one component to do.

I had to have both front wishbones replaced this year ,massive amount of play so couldn't use my usual garage in West Yorkshire (use when I visit my folks) got ripped off by cowboys in Bodmin ,but the Yorkshire place quoted £30 a side edit /labour ,I've used eBay parts in the past and only got a year out of drop links ect so I try and get a decent brand ,main dealer stuff is sometimes quite reasonable

Do you know that these haven't been addressed since the MOT? Might not need doing.
Or could use this to get a few extra quid off.

Agreed it's minor, I'd probably get the dust covers replaced next MOT/service whenever because they are dirt cheap even of you can do it yourself and need to pay labour and it'll slow down the problem.

I ended up leaving the car because when I went to see it there was rust on the boot door sill exterior. I’m looking at a CRV now. Bit different :D
