I was just walking home from my friends house and this police van pulls up, Asks for my name, DOB, if i walked through the park and where I'd been.

Now I find nothing wrong with that, The police have a job to do and if i can help in anyway I will.

But I would have liked a reason for why I'd been stopped.

Any reason like "we;ve had a report of some kids shouting vulgar comments, have you seen them?".

Even if it was a lie, I'd have liked some explanation for why I was stopped.

Have you ever had this happen to you? Should I be worried about it?

I wouldve asked myself. If they dont have reason to stop you then they shouldnt. Unless they are doing that on the spot stop and search?

The police can pretty much stop and search anyone since the revision in terrorism laws iirc.

Get it loads at the airports when I'm waiting to pick my dad up.

AHA just cracked it. They may have been on a curfew search. Some people (Especially kids that get in to trouble) can have curfews put on them, they might've just been doing a random check with their system.

I've been stopped loads of times walking home late at night from nights out. They stop me, ask where I've come from, where I'm going, ask for my name, run a check on me, sometimes enter into some small talk and explain why I've been stopped, realise I'm not a serial killer and let me carry on stumbling home.

It happens I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't mind that they stopped me, I don't know why I didnt ask I just wanted to get home before it was raining.

Either way I guess i'm not likely to hear anything about this ever again?

Can't you refuse to tell them anything unless they have a valid reason or something?

do that and you'll spend the night in a cell, refusing to aid police gives them enough reason to be suspicious of you, why not just make their job easier?

Tom.

Not sure on the legalities, but in my experience there's no point be arsey with the police, if you're straight with them they're normally pretty straight with you.

Because I don't like to be treated like I live in a police state where the police have infinite power over anyone just because they don't like the look of them? I was just asking a question about our rights anyway :\

How old are you guys? Also do you look like football hooligans? :p

I'v been "stoped" by the coppers once, when I was carrying a pair of speakers I just got with a shopping trolley. They just asked me why I am taking it and where I live, and told me to bring it back.

Other than that, never. Ok I got chased once by a police car but that's a differnt story.
