How odd...

Not sure on the legalities, but in my experience there's no point be arsey with the police, if you're straight with them they're normally pretty straight with you.

I'v said it many times here, you Brits are luck to have the most easy going cops in the whole world.

If I went up to a cop in Greece and asked him how he's doing, I'd get a beating then he would throw me in a cell for the night!

Because I don't like to be treated like I live in a police state where the police have infinite power over anyone just because they don't like the look of them? I was just asking a question about our rights anyway :\

your rights in this country mean he could detain you indefinitely and just say "he refused to tell me anything so i assumed he could be a terrorist"

Tom.

How does that answer what you originally said to me and do you seriously think that'd stick when he got back to the station or if it was taken to court?

obviously it's extreme, but he could do it....and he doesnt really have to have a reason to detain you overnight, whether you like it or not being bitchy to police is not the way to go about things.

Tom.

There's being bitchy as you put it and knowing your rights. There are too many cops on power trips who think they can bully people into submission in my opinion. Saying that, I have only been stopped once (on suspicion of robbery!) when I was 16 and walking to a GCSE exam and he treated me fairly and curtiously :)
