How often do you clean your oven?

No it's not unfortunately. I guess I just don't cook that much spitting food?

I find roasting meat is the thing that really dirties the oven, so if you don't do that too often it probably stays relatively clean.

I probably clean mine every few months, whenever the door has enough crud on it to stop you being able to properly see inside :p

Whenever the oven cleaner is on offer! :D

Any tips for cleaning metal hobs? Mine are pretty grubby but I'm reluctant to use scratch iron wool on them.

I do roast relatively often, and often use the top oven to finish food off that I've started in the frying pan, like fish, and letting steaks rest etc.... I do try to wipe down the oven after cooking whilst I'm able to - however I don't count that as cleaning! :p

Oven priding and a good hour's worth is needed to register as cleaning! :p

I actually need to find a way of cleaning the glass - even with oven pride it still has some burn/browning marks on it :(

The easiest way to clean the doors is to take them off, you can put them flat then and give them a good scrub.

Be careful with products like the oven cleaners, it destroys the rubbers seals if it gets on them.

I've got an extremely expensive self-cleaning oven that we were left when we bought the house :)

Once it is done it just needs brushing out.

Not enough unfortunately. But I am just about to move into my first house (as owner) so my new oven will be taken care of a lot more than my previous rented ones.

Mine was like that once, then I cleaned the glass with a razor blade... still remember that sound.....

I honestly did use a razorblade. Safety razor but using pliers I snapped off the plastic piece to reveal the razor edge. Then was able to drag it over the glass while in oven just like you would a squidgy. Sparkling clean glass in no time! Just remember to carefully dispose of the razor afterwards!

I use these all the time at home and at work. They can be used by hand, or you can also buy a retractable body that the blades clip into. Very handy for scraping window screens to remove tree sap, or oven doors or even your house windows.

EDIT: Probably better places to buy them from, but I just picked the first link on ebay.

I must confess not very often.

Ours has self-cleaning feature but the glass I'd say once every other year but to be honest it doesn't get that dirty.

We had ours professionally cleaned last week and was really worthwhile doing, although they never do the glass as well as you would do your own - can't complain as they did the extractor covers as well which I HATE doing.

Ensuring the extractor covers are dishwasher proof when choosing an extractor is a very good idea as it is one of the most horrible jobs! ;)

I am a Bloke living alone, I'd rather buy a new oven than clean the old one out, It's the man way.

The bloke I bought my flat off shared that philosophy. Took me many hours of scrubbing just to make the window transparent again. Many hours more to make it usable. Getting the pros in next time.
