How often do you format?

I get that, after repairing other peoples pc's I often keep an image (normally if it's a reinstall) for the next time they mess it up.

I should charge storage fees as none of them want to buy external drives to keep the Acronis True Image backup on.
 
Probably average around 12-18 months, but that's usually because I feel like it and not due to some specific problem. XP used to be a chore to install if you didn't have the drivers but since Vista it's barely more difficult than installing an application.

You may have well as wrote, "I stab my self in the eyes, but only when I feel like it"

I don't think I could ever imagine a time where I thought, What will I do today? I know I'll reformat my computer, that'll be fun.

I don't get it.

I have sneaky backups too! Doesn't matter if it cost them 50 quid for a new copy of Windows etc, they always lose recovery/installation discs. Now if they ever come back I can just wack the image on, charge em £50, and send them on their way :D
 
Normally when ever i think my PC is running a bit slow or something just doesn't seem right, in all fairness it really doesn't take that long.
I'm going to reformat soon because im sure there are some nasties on my PC but nothing finds them, also i have just got myself an OCZ SSD as a boot drive so i will reformat all my drives and have a re-arrange.
 
new laptop for crimbo and i formatted it yesterday when i got my grubby mits on the windows 7 SP1 integrated ISO. normal people would have upgraded but not me. :o

Use to have someone similar a few years back. Unsuccessful update? Format. Couple of BSoD's in a fortnight? Format

Just done a new one myself today.

New install, programs, security programs, utility programs, craploads of updates and old data transferred.

Stuck the user on an auto log-in limited account to make it harder to muck up, admin on a passworded account only I can use.

Then stored a backup of the lot.


Irony is I'm a lot less secure on my own system :D

I don't think I ever implied it was fun? I install a fair bit of beta software, games I play a few times that I'm not really bothered about again, trial software that I never buy the full versions of etc. and general files you accumulate over the years. So I can either sit there removing them, or just pop the disc in which is a largely unattended process and come back to a fresh install.
 
I reformat on average once a month. :P Thats cus of all the crap I end up installing and can't be bothered cleaning up afterwards. Images for the win - only takes 10mins :)
