How often do you post a facebook status?

Last one was on new years day.

I only use it to talk to my mates in a group chat and post happy birthday or random quotes to my friends which we will only get :)

Get party invitations in a private message and thats about it.

Why the **** are people at my age (16) posting witty and philosophical status's daily? They are clever but obviously stolen from tumblr or from somewhere on the internet.

I also hate it when a girl posts 'I'm bored' and gets 50+ likes... It's like wtf all of the likes are from boys who want to bang you... lol.

Hate the chavs that post like 'cHriz iz mi tru luv! <3' F off!

It sounds like there is hope for the youth of today just yet.

Unlike a lot of people here I probably post a few things every day. Not so much status updates but articles/videos/news. I use it more as a microblog with friends these days. I used to use it for advertising in previous jobs (Student Union club nights etc) but now a lot of friends use what they post as a conversation piece when we're out.

Think of it as the same as going on messenger and posting the same article to 10 friends, but only needing to do it once. Everyone sees it and then everyone talks about it.

Edit: However, I'm completely against people just publicising personal or useless gossipy information, it's the bane of facebook :/

You'll find that as you get older and you and your mates see far less of each other due to significant others or significant little ones. Facebook becomes a great place to keep in touch with friends that emigrated to Australia or similar foreign climates (like Brighton :)). It's just a fact of life that you drift apart and have less time to devote to "hanging out".
Status updates become a way to keep in touch and hold a line of communication that doesn't involve phoning 20 or 30 people. I hate phone conversations, mine consist of "7pm pickup ok? yep, cool, bye!" but I like to comment on friends statuses. Wishing my friends in New Zealand all the best when they woke to another 5.1 tremor last night keeps me in the picture with what's going on in their lives so when we see each other next (be it years away even), we wont feel so much like strangers.
I can understand skepticism of facebook status updates and I find the constant life diary updates of some people attention seeking and annoying, but each to their own, they're not bad people.

June 2009. And the one before that was in February 2008 :)

Only thing I really ever do on FB is say happy birthday/congrats on the baby and that sort of thing. It's deactivated most of the time anyway but I open it again now and then to sync with my phone contacts.

I have made one. June 11, 2008, thanking everyone for the birthday wishes. Never made one again. Got nothing to say.

Whenever something of interest happens, or a I want to have a whinge (Whinging is more frequent)

I dont. But everyone seems insistant on using it for arranging a party or a gathering, it is pretty handy in this respect. A quick check to see if anythings happening then carry on as usual.

I don't change mine very often but when I do I like to mess with people.

Last year I'd been helping a mate put up a marquee for a garden party. To reflect this my status read

"has been dealing with a huge erection all day"
