Similar to me. The only reason I needed to upgrade was for VR. Now have a 9950X3D (Previous 5900X). The 5900X system ran everything 2D great but I need a bit more oomph for VR games which are very CPU intensive.

Man time flies.
I built my 5800x system just as they were released, December 2020.
So my system will be 5 years old at the the of the year.
I've upgraded the GPU but everything else is the same.
I got no desire to upgrade within the next 2-3 years, I reckon I might skip AM5 completely, and see what the next gen is looking like.
