I don't see anything wrong with the whole initiative. I'd much rather DIY stores spend two seconds asking each customer for ID than have teenagers rampaging around the streets with potentially deadly weapons, vandalising property and generally running amuck.

It's obviously not the most difficult measure to circumvent ("Psst, go in there and buy us an 'ammer, willya?"), but at least it's a start.

i agree.

Ah,so you would rather they didnt and one person did actually buy a hammer to go attack some OAP outside comet?

I'd rather get Id'd asking for 12 shots and 3 vodkas and, if it came to it,a hammer. Aslong as you have Id its no hassle is it.

I work in ASDA, and at the end of work i went and bought a knife sharpener (for my dad), the till prompted the checkout girl to check my age... i had to be 18.. to buy a knife sharpener? :o

Oi! I don't look like a chav!! :p

I agree with anything like knives should be ID'd, but how often have you heard of someone been attacked with a hammer? Just about anything can be used as a weapon in the end, it's stupid putting restrictions on anything more than knives though, what next, ID required to buy pillows??

I just felt a bit insulted by getting ID'd for buying a hammer, it feels as though they think I'm scum and would actually use it as a weapon!
