As title, I just found a couple of bottles I was given in 2000, will these have improved/deteriorated? Not sure how old it is in the first place when bottled, I don't drink the stuff obviously but wondering if worth keeping/binning.

Whisky neither deteriorates or improves when kept bottled. The ageing process is only effective when it's still in its cask.

Jack Daniels' popularity began just after prohibition ended. Whiskey takes years to age properly but the Jack Daniels distillery found that filtering the whiskey through charcoal could produce something that vaguely resembled the proper process.

And so, Jack Daniel's managed to get their "whiskey" back on the market years before its competitors and built up a virtual monopoly.

In other words, even if you had a barrel of Jack Daniel's, it wouldn't make much difference. :p

The marketing slogan is "it's ready when it's ready" and they don't seem to give out many more details - from that you can probably guess it's unlikely to be a product that is aged much.

I wouldn't bin it provided there are no obvious signs of contamination to the bottles - it's unlikely but a quick visual inspection should be enough, aside from that it will taste the same as it always has. If you don't want it yourself then I'd suggest to either give it to a friend who does drink it or take it to a house party and leave it there for others to enjoy.

Despite being the location of a major operational distillery, Jack Daniel's home county of Moore is a dry county, so the product is not available for consumption at stores or restaurants within the county.

Only place you can buy it is the White Rabbit shop on the distillery site. You get to take it away in an unmarked brown paper bag in true American style.
