So I work on the phones in my current job and people are always spelling things out to me over the phone. One thing continually astounds me though, people get the letter 'O' mixed up with the number '0'! I can understand if they were reading some kind of reference but these are their names and passwords from memory.

How on earth can you spell the name Todd T,ZERO,D,D?

To me it seems completely ludicrous, they are completely different concepts!

I do it the other way round. If reading out the telphone number 020 I will say Oh two oh, rather than zero two zero.

I know I shouldn't... but I do :(.

If you happen to live in Wales, you will often be asked to spell out your 'foreign' address or name in simple terms over the phone, it always livens things up when they ask things like 'Is that a P for Peter?' and you say 'No, P for Paul' or 'No P for Apple' just to confuse things even more, doesn't happen as often nowadays though with all the Computers doing all the hard work for them.

I sometimes use 'oh' meaning zero if it's purely a string of digits as it's obvious what I mean.

if it's mixed, keep it strict to their true form/type.

sometimes when reading my phone number out I'll say oh-7 and then for the one in the middle of the number I'll say zero, it confuses me when I do it.

Doofer, agree with a comment above, your location below your avatar is cringe worthy.

Are you one of these people?
