Reminds me of the Cable and Wireless days. We had cable back in the 90's and cancelled once for whatever reason. Randomly decided to plug the coax from the STB directly into the back of a TV and the TV managed to auto tune most channels. Sky1, Sky Sports and even Sky Box Office amongst other channels.
How on earth has this happened? Iv got sky channels for free.

I used to work in sky and it happened often, technical issues with the software they use. Most of the time it will sort itself out but the odd occasion it won't.
I had one old women phone me to say she's just noticed she was getting more than she should have. I looked at her account and she hadn't paid for 2 years, and getting the full package. Thankfully for her I was a very nice guy

Conspiracy theory: Sky activated them on purpose so you got a taste for multi room. It appears to have worked
