...do you take the hook out of this? Or do they literally just let it go with the hook stuck in its mouth? :(

Can any anglers shed light?

Father and son catch 7ft shark from kayak
23 August 2011 Last updated at 14:32 Help A father and son who went fishing in the Gulf of Mexico caught something a lot bigger than they expected.

Kevin Stevens and his nine-year old son, Hunter, spent an hour reeling in a 7ft (2m) long black tip shark from their 12ft (3.5m) kayak.

After getting some good pictures the pair agreed it was time to cut the shark loose.

Roll it on its back, it puts them in a trance and they wont bite. Thank you Stephen Fry and the QI elves for my knowledge on this matter.

Watching some fishing shows and clips from youtube ive seen some people cut the line just before the mouth and others swiftly pull the hook straight out (very rare tho).

Cool Vid tho.

Just to add

hooks left in (like a piercing) work their way out. That said when I used to go we always used barbless ones anyway.

Cut the line and pull it on through with a pair of pliers for big stuff like that. No worse than having your lip pierced really. It'll heal.

Even if they do leave it in, as long as the hook isn't made of stainless steel, it wont last long in the ocean. It'll rust through and fall out eventually

Lol what man children the media is so biased.
When I was just off the coast of Norway fishing with Chuck Norris, I pulled a minke whale in on my own, had it for dinner, stuffed it and it's now on the wall.True story.

Well I feel educated now, thanks for the serious posts. :p

I'd be squealing like a little girl if I caught a shark whilst I was on a kayak so mad props!
