How plausible is this?

I've fell in twice while running and once on purpose to clean myself of poo/sewage :)
The water was waist high and I'm only 5' 6" and I got out dead easy.

I used to run down the edge of the canal on the bricks

I know of 3 cases of people dying in Stoke canals in recent years.

Also very close to where @Malevolence lives is this memorial to a Tram driver who drowned in the Canal, the Canal used to be where all the grass is.
Timothy Trow was his name.

Sorry, but are we just ignoring the story about being covered in sewage?...

If you must :)
I went on a 13 mile run in very heavy rain and when i got to about 6 miles there was a very dirty stream about knee height running across the road.
I ran through it, turned round at 6.5 and just when i was about to run through it again a lorry driver stopped me and said not to run through it because it was sewage.
He told me to jump on the back while he drove through.
One mile later i was in Barlaston where i jumped in the canal which was next to Neil Morrisey's pub called The Plume of Feathers. :)

a-Wonderous-Cheese is That Jekka Gal

Someone please do some internet sleuthing to confirm.

Aa alluded to earlier in the thread, it's cheesefest. But that doesn't mean it's also not That Jekka Gal. The "scratch a brain itch" is very much something he would say. I mean if you're going to pretend to be someone else on a computer forum why not do it a couple of times?
