How quickly can I get my license?

What's wrong with the crash courses? At the end of the day you'll be doing the same amount of hours driving as you would in two weeks instead of 1 a week for X amount of weeks.

They are offering very limited time to learn something as important as driving safely. You're just not getting the same road experience as someone who has taken lessons over a period of weeks/months.

I have a feeling that they may hold dates back?

My instructor told me they hold dates back in case of bad weather cancellations etc especially for this time of year, and they slowly get released so to keep checking, but the only dates I can still get are the 10th of May+ :( I do check a few times a day though!

You could argue that you are likely to forget less having all lessons close together than one a week.

I be honest, i think everyone learns to be a decent driver (or not) after they have passed the test regardless of how they passed it.

Keep checking, you should get a cancellation eventually.

IceBus, are you having professional lessons or just learning with a family member or friend?
I think it is important that you have some professional lessons. I only needed 6 or 7 as I did most of my driving with my mum, but those lessons definitely picked up on a few bad habits that could well have made me fail the test.
Observation is usually the one where people get minor faults for, keep checking your mirrors whenever you change your speed or direction.
Observation on the manoeuvres is especially important, you need to keep looking around you and stop if you have to.

Bit of an update... I've mainly driving with a family member so far, and feeling pretty confident, as I've done pretty much everything I can think of now (roundabouts, dual carriageways, speed up to 45mph etc.) so I'm going to book in for some professional lessons to finish things off. I've got my practical booked for May 11th... Just hoping my instructor won't mind and will think I'm ready for that. I'm hoping that five hours of lessons will be enough to get me ready (£80).

TBH now I'm most concerned about getting used to driving another car with a different clutch and brakes.

I took an intensive driving course and passed in about a month (post theory pass). Involved driving 5 days a week though. Mentally tiring though.
