How reliable are things like Evo's and Scooby's?

My folks have had a couple of Imprezas from new and done around 30k in each and only thing that's ever needed changing was the tyres, and even then they wore really well. Servicing wasn't much, mpg wasn't terrible (2.0 and 2.5 litre WRXs).

As soon as you start looking at STis though I believe the costs do go up somewhat, but still for the performance you get I think it's not so bad.

Never looked into the actual costs for Evos just that they have short service intervals and like to eat clutches.

I have Mintex 1155s on mine (don't recognise the fleabay link part number, which I assume is the number for a kit): they squeal more than Vicki Butler-Henderson when cold, but do the job.

How was your service so expensive? I've looked on ebay and you can get brake pads for £50 and i read the Evo long term test in which they got their service for £179?

Was your service a 50,000mile/5 year one?

Was a 30k service plus I had Tarox front pads fitted (£105+vat) and also an uprated airfilter and changed one of the belts too (forget which one now, think it was the alternator belt, one of them had worn) This was all done at powerstation. Labour was £175 (3.5hrs), parts just under £400 then the VAT.

Personally I'd rather uprate the whole brake equipment rather than fancy discs/pads.

I ended up with Wilwood 6 pots on my classic. I had a set of Alcons but £300 each for discs was a bit too steep.

However, I bought new discs and pads for the 4 pots (same as Type R and any post98 classic) discs were £90 and the pads £30 (same as Nissan 300ZX)

Hardly bank breaking.

Irrationally in my mind the Scooby is more reliable, probably because it doesn't need an AYC fuid change every 2 miles.
I'd rather have the EVO out of the two as an all round machine, but if it was to be used mainly as a daily driver that would probably be reversed.

Brakes wise, the mintex xtreme pads are pretty darn good, I had them on my Accord Type-R and while a little noisy when cold sometimes, they did the job well.
I picked up a set of EP3 Civic Type-R front calipers, disks and pads for £210 a few days ago (while we were talking about expensive brakes) - RESULT :)

Mind you, having said I'd never look at an EVO, the price of a nice V these days makes it exactly the same price as a half decent P1.

I would like to at least try a V before I right them off altogether. We recently looked at a Type R Impreza and my wife spent most of the time mooching around the EVO VI parked next to it. :)
