How Reliable is Crossfire/SLI v Single-GPU?

The 9800GX2 seems a bit troublesome for some reason - which is odd when similiar configs using 8800GT/GTS cards with the same core don't exhibit the same symptoms.

my experience with dual GPU with Nvidia so far is pretty bad... especially with dual display :( Its the most horrible experience I've ever had with dual display :( Shouldn't have swapped the HD 4850 for the 9800GX2... I didn't take it just for the extra performance.. I took it for the sake of getting a better resale value of the graphics card :p

Lies! No one ever has problems with nVidia hardware! Blasphemy!

(yes I'm joking, I'm making fun of those nVidia fanboys who think nVidia hardware is so quality that it never has issues, when in reality every brand has issues at some point).

I'm pretty sure nVidia have fixed the dual display issues with their latest drivers though.

I had a 3870X2 and it was a brilliant card. Only downside to it was that AA performance was poor but that was architectural and not Crossfire related.

I would always try and get an X2 over two separate cards personally, but then it's really down to the individual.

The good thing is less wattage requirements, the bad thing is more noise with stock cooling. So as long as you get a good third party cooler it would be fine.
